There are many creatures hiding and lurking, feeding and stealing in Undermountain's endless passages...Most of these will be familiar to adventurers, such as the goblinoids, others less so, like the enigmatic sharn. This is not a list of the "what is what", but rather the "who is who" of Undermountain.

Here you will find the major characters, and groups, that are to be found in the halls below. It is far from comprehensive, so, as usual, "caveat Emperator", or should that be, "let the wanderer beware" ?


SOU-ZEKISS: a lich who lairs to the extreme South-West of the first level, he and Rymrach the red dragon are allies, and wisely left alone by most folk! Fortunately, the lich marks his territory with his runic mark, and that gives warning to the wise.

The Circle of Ice/The Mistress: A group of Loviatar worshippers. They have a major presence on the upper levels. Led by a powerful, feared person known simply as "The Mistress". They have many humanoid mecenaries, all wear the group's symbol: a white circle.
? IROGON'S IMPS: Irogon is thought to be a powerful wizard, a lich it is rumoured. he has groups of brigands who hunt Undermountain, robbing adventurers and others for magic items (Irogon apparently lets his servants keep monetary wealth). These bands always have an imp as a leader or scout.

Paroo Maraliss: A drow matron mother, she is leading a"jihad" to bring her people back to dominance in Undermountain.

Amelias Doomwraith: An incredibly destructive lich who has the habit of appearing in the midst of groups or battles and unleashing a cataclysmic "energy ring" spell. Goals unknow, but greatly feared.
  The Rising Blades: A clan of dwarves who have set up in the North-East section of the second level of Undemrountain. Famed heroes, they occasionally turn up in the Yawning Portal with goods to sell.
  The Children of the Sunless Night: A colony of vampires. Truly horrific, although undead it is said they can breed with mortals, producing nightmarish abominations. Dreaded by all.

Rymrach: A red wyrm who lairs on the 1st level to the extreme South. he is an ally of Sou-Zekiss and the lords of Waterdeep! the dragon is paid to prevent nastier creatures reaching the surface. he was originally hired to to fight in the troll wars of long ago.
  Pymalorr Crimson Gift: A strange, old human female wizard. She lairs near the famous "Xoblob Gate" (which leads to the surface, into the shop of the same name). Doesn't like stangers, but sometimes gives gifts coloured crimson, hence her nickname. She is researching magic.
