Welcome to Amber! Amber is the one True City in the universe, and all other worlds, even our own, are merely Shadows of Amber. If one has a strong enough will, one can manipulate Shadow to equal his heart's desires.
In this universe of Amber, the central characters are the Family; the royal family of Amber, descendents of its creator Dworkin, the Amberites (for that is what they are called) have the ability to manipulate Shadow. Strong, long-lived, and durable beyond the wildest dreams of mortal man, the Amberites are a complex and mysterious bunch; new family members are constantly turning up, new intrigues and plots are always appearing, and old mysteries lie ready to be newly discovered. In Amber, trust is rare, for the person to stab you in the back could be anyone; even and especially a member of your own family.
Writers in the universe of Amber take the roles of Amberites. They come to Amber alone, perhaps knowing of their heritage and parentage, perhaps uncovering their potential by accident. Either way, Amber is a new world for them to explore. They are quickly caught up in the family struggles, the fight to defend Amber, and the never-ending struggle between the Pattern of Amber, symbol of Order, and the Logrus of Chaos, symbol of...well, Chaos.
In Amber, almost anything can happen.
Writers create complex and intriguing characters and enter into the realm. They write stories about their characters, and then another person adds to the stories, forming the continuous saga that started where Roger Zelazny left off. In the realm of Amber, there are only two rules.....harm not another main character, and never contradict a story...After all, time, even Amber time, flows only one way, and one person cannot be in two places at once!
Amber is a fun and creative place. Knowledge of Roger Zelazny's Amber is useful, but not required of writers. Would you be a part of Amber? Contact Christopher Ackney, Amber Administrator. Note to potential writers: It is reccommended that all considering joining Amber read the FAQs. Even if you have read all the Amber novels, there is information contained in the FAQs of which you may not be aware. It is especially important that writers read section 6.0, because it contains the administrative details about Amber, and information specific to the group.
NEWS! Recently, writer Judi Marko decided to quit World Weavers. Although most of the writers in Amber have no problem with WW, we wanted Judi to stay with us, so we moved Amber to a new location! The Amber Interactive Fiction-Writing Unit is now located at alt.fiction.interactive. Amber posts have [AM] in the subject heading.
