Summary:

Rumours are going round that Godzilla´s there again. The prime minister of Japan wants to keep this secret, because he fears that panic could spread out in the japanese population. The first incident happens: a submarine is attacked by Godzilla. Russens believe the americans responsible for that, a new war is close. The japanese prime minister tells them that Godzilla´s responsible for the attack. Americans and russiens now decide to defeat the monster with nuclear bombs, japanese government can prevent this just in time. Godzilla appears in Tokyo bay and attacks a nuclear plant. There he gets power and regenerates. The japanese miltary is again chanceless against him, there´s gotta be only help from their newest weapon Super-X. Godzilla destroys some skycrapers and with his atomic breath he gets rid of the new wonder weapon of mankind. Meanwhile, a brilliant scientist discovers that Godzillas brain´s nearly the same as a bird brain. With bird sounds, they plan to lure him to a vulcano. An artificial erruption shall defeat Godzilla forever. The plan is successful and earth seems to be safe again.

My Opinion:

The beginning of a new aera of the Godzilla film. There were rumours that Toho wanted to make a new Godzilla movie after the successful King Kong movie in 1976. But it took them nearly till 1984 that the "remake" of the debut was filmed. Now here, Godzilla is much bigger and evil than ever before. After lots of films, in which Godzilla was the saviour of mankind, now he shows he´s real face again! Toho sends our hero on a great and entertaining destruction orgy. Right, get´em all! The score is at least good as in the first movie and Godzilla made some changes through all the years. He seems to be much bigger, the mouth is even more dangerous and he doesn´t really look funny anymore. Oh yes, there are some weaken here (why has Godzilla a bird-like brain?), but this is also a terrific new beginning, which lets me forget some really crude films of the series. But there will be some better films waiting for you, and this is still one of my favourites!
