YemCon PCF-1 'Lancer' System Defense Boat
Your stay in Zaxted Starport is necessarily brief. Too long a stay here might indicate to the Orion Khanate's clannish sensibilities one form or another of YemCon involvement. Compromising YemCon as a clandestine player could undermine the fledgling polity's status in intergalactic affairs. But worse, two Hunter battleships, although outdated, could slag Zaxted Starport in minutes, killing over ten thousand. And the number of SDBs on hand in the system wouldn't be enough to stop them. YemCon informs you that the Pale government has requested your presence on Pale IV.
YemCon
YemCon stands for Yemuro Convention. Seven or so independent worlds signed the
Yemuro Convention in late 2244. Its purpose is to maintain neutrality, provide a
political voice against the Civil War, and secure the trade lanes between signatory
worlds. YemCon markets the cargo-hauler, the short-hauler, the fast courier, the
joint strike fighter (JSF), and the system defense boat (SDB), three new merchant
ships, a fighter, and a light capital ship. They also manufacture and/or market the
4-Cell VLS, VLS missiles, and proton cannons/mid-grade. The VLS system is
available at just about any system. The rest may be purchased at
most YemCon worlds. You can read more about YemCon when you land at New Istanbul
in the Yemuro system. Note that YemCon isn't an 'ally with the Rebels or 'Feds and
help them kick butt' government. Quite the opposite. They really have had enough of
war and all of its effects, especially piracy.
Due to the creation of the integrated VLS and particularly the SDB, YemCon's export
revenues have been substantial and have been put to intelligent use. YemCon system
defense dudes as a result are at least partially supplemented by SDBs or JSFs,
making these worlds more challenging to conquer. YemCon's growing economy and
self-determination have becomes issues of concern to many in the intergalactic
community, who view YemCon as a new political actor with an agenda. YemCon wishes
merely to maintain neutrality and develop self-reliant capabilities sufficient to
combat piracy. It also wishes to help other neutral-intentioned worlds do the same
thing. Regardless of its benevolent intentions, YemCon's decision to take a role in
the affairs of other world actors (by supporting self-reliance and selling
armaments), and the willingness of other world actors to allow YemCon to do so, have
given the fledgling polity greater political standing than its means. And there is
concern that this may draw it into conflict with one, the other, or both parties to
the Civil War.
Pale
'Pale', so named for how the primary world looks from space, is located on the
bottom right of the galactic map and is accessable from Thanos and Castor.
Pale is neutral in its stance toward the Civil War and is considering YemCon
membership. A significant portion of its income is derived from the mining,
processing, and sale of ore. Due to its stand on the terrestrial industrialization
of its homeworld, most of Pale's industrial base is located on its moon. Pale's
scientific contribution to the colonized worlds is in the field of astro-physical
research, and the system possesses very advanced astro-physical research
technologies. As there is some evidence to suggest that the Aliens of the Great War may
still exist to pose a threat, Pale's astro-physical research is focused on areas beyond
the Fringe. Pale also has a well-funded weapon research program. High intensity
energy damage-transfer weapons and combat-effective advanced
plasma/fusion-based technologies are in use or are being developed. And many are in
service on all classes of Pale warships. In sum, it has enabled Pale to keep
pace with weapon technology curve advancements of the larger powers.
Pale has a semi-secretive arrangement with the Confeds whereby they conduct joint
astro-physical research of areas beyond the Fringe. Although Pale has offered to
conduct joint research with the Rebellion, the Rebels cannot afford to do so as the
vast, vast majority of their resources are continually channeled toward the Civil
War. Pale is thus in the position of working solely with the Confeds on this issue,
and the arrangement is highly problematic in the current galactic environment.
For more information on the government's policies, go to the Pale system, land at
each of the four planets/stations, and read the descriptions of each one.
Hunter
I altered Hunter considerably. It's now no longer aligned with the Rebellion.
In my plug, Orion, Hunter's sister planet, was destroyed by the Aliens during the
Great War. Those who survived relocated to Hunter . They reasserted their clannish
consciousness and divided power along the lines of groups of families. The system
is united under their leader, Khan Moller. They've managed to re-industrialize
somewhat over 25 years, but not through interstellar trade. In fact, few can figure
out how Hunter has managed to do this since progress exceeds known resources by a
wide margin.
This storyline is developed in a mission set involving the Artemis
Group. But be patient. The plot line requires that you first complete the T.A.G.
mission set.
