First Contact
During the course of events, she had a few interesting chats with some of the alien visitors. One of them had shown a thick
metal book to Betty, that was written in strange symbols, like Heiroglyphics ~ that she, an educated woman and a teacher, had never seen before.
Having been promised the book by the spaceman, in her drugged condition she nearly cried when he told her that the others had made clear to him
that she couldn't be allowed to have it. "But that was my proof," she said, "how am I going to convince people what happened to me ?" The alien
apologized, but said that the others had talked about it and decided that her people were not yet ready to know of the existence of other beings,
and that she and her husband would not remember anything. She promised the alien however, that she would never forget her experience with them.
Lingering Memories
The next thing they remember is hearing a strange beeping sound (which now seems like a kind of hypnotic cue), while travelling
down the highway on their way home. The Hills describe their ride home as unusually silent, though before their encounter they had been having a lively
conversation about all the fun they had on their weekend vacation. They did not at this time remember anything about their few hours adventures, though
they thought it odd that by the time they got home it was nearly dawn and almost light out, when they had expected to arrive shortly after midnight.
Although they were very tired by now, both felt the need to shower afterwards, and neither one felt clean when they were done.
They both had nightmares for weeks afterwards, and neither one of them wanted to admit that something must have happened, but Betty took some
advice and held a compass near the rear of their car the next day, and the needle spun madly. This and other odd occurances led the couple to finally seek
hypnotic regression therapy, which opened their eyes to their bizarre night in the woods of New Hampshire, with some strange creatures, aboard a UFO.
