Christian groups, and/or leaders do one, several, or all
of the following warning signs to be classified as a cult.

How to Spot a Cult.

A group or leader of a group, does not need to do all four warning signs to be classified as a cult; just one warning sign is all that is needed to set off warning bells. The more warning signs, the more completely the group has rejected true Christianity and has taken on the nature of a cult.

Let's see if Adventism fits these warning signs:

1:
Add to the Bible. Ellen Gould White is credited to have written 25 million words that are quoted by Adventists just like Bible Scripture. Adventists that have grown up in the church have familiar quotes that come to mind, but they often do not know if the imbedded information is from the Bible or Ellen Gould White.  Adventists have also taken to printing their own Bibles with the messages of Ellen Gould White hidden in the verses of Scripture.  To learn more about these teachings, see our two reports:

2:
Subtract from the person of Jesus Christ or His Deity. Ellen Gould White claimed Jesus did not come in the flesh when he walked the earth some 2000 years ago, as the Bible warns some evil people would do. Ellen Gould White also claimed Jesus was an Angel from Heaven.  To learn more about these teachings, see our two reports:

3:
Multiply the requirements for Salvation. Adventists have published many hundreds of books that contain what they call "Testimonies", which are full of thousands of commandments directed toward their members. If you do not follow these commandments, you are not following the counsels of God, the Adventists claim.  These books contain over 25 million words of Ellen Gould White, and it would take a lifetime to read them all. SDA members are expected to purchase and read as many of these books as possible, and they teach from these books in their Churches like most denominations teach from the Bible. One of the teachings of the Church is to not eat meat, in order to obtain Salvation (1T, p. 187; CD pp. 380-381).  The Bible, in 1st Timothy  4:1-5 calls this teaching a "doctrine of demons".  Other doctrines they hide from new members are: eating pork causes leprosy (CD, p. 393); wearing wigs damages the brain (HR, Oct., 1871); wearing bonnets indicates satanic control (1T, pp. 188-189); drinking coffee, tea or some soft drinks is a sin (Evangelism, p. 266); having butter, eggs, or meat on your table keeps your prayers from reaching heaven (CD, p. 366).

4:
Divide the loyalty of the follower between God and other ChristiansAdventists claim all other churches are "Babylon" and will be lost when Jesus comes back to earth.  Adventists are taught to convert as many people to Adventism as they can, and quickly, because the people in other churches are lost. Adventists spend little time converting the truly lost because they spend most of their effort debating people in other churches, telling them they are in a fallen church and not in the true church, the Seventh-day Adventist Church.  Ellen Gould White also worked at separating people inside her church, teaching that church members should not pray for each other when they are sick, if those sick people are not loyal tithe payers to their church. "What word has God for those who ignore the light that is shining abroad, and then ask to be prayed for that they may be sanctified and healed? --The same word that he had for Cain: "If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? And if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. Some, if they should regain their health, would indulge in some heedless transgression of nature's laws. We should first find out if the sick one has been withholding tithes or has made trouble in the church". (Ellen Gould White, Healthful Living. P. 227 U. T., Aug. 25, 1897)

Adventists claim the only church on earth chosen by God,
is the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

It is clear that the Seventh-day Adventist Church
fits all four warning signs of a Christian cult, and because they fit every warning sign so completely, they should be considered a very dangerous cult.
