I am that which is beyond and before

I am that.

That alone is.

Physicists describes four forces of nature.
These are the strong interaction,

The strong interaction holds the
nucleus of the atom together.

The weak interaction is responsible
for radioactive decay and
the transmutation of elements.

Electromagnetism gives rise to heat,

Gravity holds the planets together

These four forces

Speaking of enlightenment, it might be interesting to post some of God's views on the subject {at least according to Neale Walsch in Conversations With God}

"Enlightenment is understanding that there is nowhere to go, nothing to do, and nobody you have to be except exactly who you're being right now.

You are on a journey to nowhere.

Heaven - as you call it - is nowhere. Let's just put some space between the w and the h in that word and you'll see that heaven is now ... here.

...

What Enlightenment asks you to do is to know something you have not experienced and thus experience it. Knowing opens the door to experience - and you imagine it is the other way around.

Actually you know a great deal more than you have experienced. You just don't know that you know."

Hope that helps. :)

BTW, if you're not thoroughly confused, you might also care to read an article called Waking up - it's not what you think

Dijana,

Hopefully you'll return to the forum along with our other regulars and new faces. I read Hadi's responses to your questions and would find it hard to improve on them. However, you might get a kick out of this which comes from the Forum archives, approx. message # 45,856

GUIDELINES FOR ENLIGHTENMENT by Swami Beyondananda

1. Be a fundamentalist, make sure Fun always comes before the mental. Realize that life is a situation comedy that will never be cancelled. A laugh track has been provided and the reason why we are put in the material world is to get more material. Have a good laughsitive twice a day and that will insure 'regularhilarity.'

2. Remember that each of us has been given a special gift-just for entering. So you are already a winner!

3. The most powerful tool on the planet today is Tell-A-Vision. That is where I tell a vision to you and you tell a vision to me.

4. Life is like photography. You use the negative to develop.

5. It is true. As we go through life thinking heavy thoughts, thought particles tend to get caught between the ears, causing a condition called truth decay. So be sure to use mental floss twice a day. And when you're tempted to practice tantrum yoga, remember what we teach in Swami's Absurdiveness Training Class: "Don't get even, get odd."

6. If we want world peace, we must let go of our attachments and truly live like nomads. That's where I no mad at you, you no mad at me. That way, there will surely be nomadness on the planet. And peace begins with each of us. A little peace here, a little peace there, pretty soon all the peaces will fit together to make one big peace everywhere.

7. I know great earth changes have been predicted for the future, so if you're looking to avoid earthquakes, my advice is simple. When you find a fault, just don't dwell on it.

8. There's no need to change the world. All we have to do is toilet train the world, and we'll never have to change it again.

9. If you're looking to find the key to the universe, I have some bad news and some good news. The bad news is - there is no key to the Universe. The good news is - it has been left unlocked.

10. Finally, everything I have told you is channeled. That way, if you don't like it, it's not my fault. And remember, enlightenment is not a bureaucracy. You don't have to go through channels.

Hi Linda,

I read your comments about communication. Yes, I've often marvelled at the human capacity for language and how a book or a poem can alter your state-of-mind and mood.

Deepak's writing certainly comes into this category. I often feel transported into an altered state of consciousness just reading his works.

Nice to see you at the Forum.

I have learned to have a more open mind about the differences we have. The concept has come to my mind that we are all so unique that it is amazing we can communicate at all. It has to be the fact that we are all connected that makes that possible. thank you what do you all think

Enlightenment surrounds us, we started there, and we are heading there.

Just before the Big Bang we had it, and we will have it again one day. One way to understand this, is to follow the trail of words from our present day, back to that first moment. Imagine yourself as an unabridged Webster's Dictionary, briming over with all the words necessary to describe the state of the Universe at any point along your journey. As you begin moving back in time, Skateboard, Sandwich, Sword, and Sandal, quickly disappear along with all of the other words that describe humans and our accessories. Next, parrot, pig, piranha, plankton, and paramecia vanish as you travel back before individual life forms existed. Your vocabulary changes more slowly now as you travel across the eons of exploding stars and condensing gases. Galaxy, star, nebulae, helium, hydrogen, smoke and fire are extinguished as you approach the beginning of time. Near the moment of the Big Bang, the few remaining entries define words like quark and light and dynamism.

Our single pointed goal lies ahead, and as you enter it you find that your pages contain no nouns or adjectives at all. Being would be there, but the entry would be short, "see Experience." And, the entry for Experience would be rather pert: "What do you expect to experience? Nothing exists here, Einstein. Go experience yourself! See Being." Then, the last words would vanish, and you are left being aware of only being aware, your pages empty.

Ever since that first (pre)moment, evolution has been pulling us towards a repeat performance. This time, however, we experience it while standing amongst the infinite diversity of this wild and crazy universe. That experience is enlightenment.

Just went to my first and last Sufi meeting. What a gas! I say my last, although I don't ever like to say never. However, I think I recieved the message I went there for. It was nothing like I expected. They just went straight into their "thing" and I joined in. Singing, chanting, dancing, holding hands in a big circle, bonding with strangers, etc. Nice. Very nice. Very loving. So I'm not knocking it. But during the discourse that followed, the Sufi leading the discussion (which was a one way affair), said a whole string of things which I needed to hear. He didn't even know what he was saying. He said, "what am I trying to say", but it was as if he was talking very specifically to me. At that moment the large orange sunset smiled at me through the window, and I got up and left the meeting to enjoy it. I hope they didn't think I was rude but, it just didn't matter anymore.

The very act of perceiving shows that you are not what you perceive." Probably just a matter of how we view things, but I tend to think I am ALL of that I see and experience. Since the present is all that exists, how can I be anything else. At any moment what I see and experience is changing and moving, but it is "my" experience of what IS. Hey, Arpoch! I clicked on the bunny and nothing happened. I sure don't feel terribly enlightened at the moment. I'm all questions and no answers. Actually, your posts raise more questions in my mind. Here goes ...

What is enlightenment?

Is it a feeling?

Is it a knowing?

Is it a sensation?

Is it an experience?

Is it a higher or altered state of consciousness?

Is it all of the above?

Is enlightenment different from wisdom?

Is enlightenment the same as awakening?

Is the attainment of enlightenment a process?

Is a little enlightenment (like a little knowledge) a dangerous thing?

Is one method better than another or do they all lead to the same destination?

Are we all on the road to it?

Does one need an experienced teacher/guide? I have seen warnings that learning from books is a haphazard way of making real progress. I have also read that each and every one of us has the potential to do-it-yourself.

Is enlightenment a commodity to be sold by those who have it to those who are seeking it?

Does it have to be a long & gradual (& painful) journey?

Or, like one of your recent links, can it be "immediate"?

How immediate is immediate? (I mean I found that site fascinating and intriguing but didn't feel immediately enlightened :)

Are there degrees of enlightenment or is it like pregnancy or death? You either are or you aren't.

Is it inevitable? If so, why don't I just kick back and wait for it to come to me?

Does it need to be sought, as in "Seek and ye shall find"?

Or should we all just listen to Richard and sit back and watch the critters?

Has anyone else got a headache?

I'm starting to seriously consider that advice you posted a while back - drop all questions bar one ...

I'll be back in a day or so and I expect a full analysis of each of these questions :)

Love the cartoon - where is it from?

Richard, you're spot on about those critters and living in the moment. A while back we had some posts about what you can learn from a dog or cat etc. Thanks for the timely reminder. However, I have a slightly different view about "techniques". I feel we DO have some need for them, at this stage. We need them to unlearn. Over the centuries, we have learnt so many things. We have learnt to live and think and behave in the most un-natural ways. We have learnt how to make ourselves and each other miserable. Now, maybe we're starting to unlearn these things. But you're right, it "should" be easy. Don't worry. Be happy. Do unto others. It's not rocket science.

A few words from our sponsor spring to mind:

"A quiet mind is all you need"

"Enchantment is our natural state"

Carol, it's amazing the amount of nature/wildlife/beauty that exists, right under peoples noses. They/we just need to be aware and open to seeing. The guy squirrel lives in the oaks around our parking area, and the girl lives across the street in the big spruce tree. They don't go in the street, and haven't gotted zapped on the power line (guess they've developed the "lineman's/electrician gene). They are fun to watch zooming around playing and being daredevils. The barnswallows (non-veggies), nest and hang out on the east side to the apt., the songbirds (veggies--give them old bread, they love it)hang out on the west side/trees,shrubs, and balcony with bread, and the camp robber types-Blue Jays and Starlings work both sides. Geese and ducks are every where, here in town. Yesterday, I was doing something on my work table, and looked out the window and there was a barn swallow hanging on the screen, flapping his/her wings to maintain position watching me, quite neat--flew off when it saw me looking back.

There are flocks of Geese and their babies feeding in front of Weyerhauser Plant (portrayed as the nuke plant, in the Simpson's), they stop traffic. God blesses us with all these beautiful and joyful beings that don't worry about the future, death, and FEAR as we humans know and doit. Critters are a lesson of what Being is. Lose fear, cut the strings to the past and future--in the present--stop with the siti and techniques and there I AM--There bliss be--there be eternity.

Ah the bouncing purple bliss bunny, bounces on to our page. Thanks for the links, Arpoch. Interesting views.

Had a wonderful day fishing, only caught a few, one 3#(19") and littler guys (released). Gave the large one to a co-worker who didn't get one yesterday. She and her husband are Buddhist, and break their vegetarianism, for a fresh fish (she asked to be on the "gimme list"). The fish I harvested, by catching, came from a farm--its practicing it's destiny. Wild ones always go back. You know in nature, all animals die violently and are consumed, that's their Natural passing. Only humans, elephants and maybe a few other social animals care for their aged.

The kids fishing are so much fun to watch. The young teens and preteens, Zooming in on bikes like little kamikaze fisherman. Shamelessly interogating you on how you caught those fish. The young kids and tots, trying to fish. Getting distracted by baby ducks, or the other kid's bottle of bubble blowing stuff. Tiny little girl's first fish, and the super proud Dad that now has an in house fishing buddie. The fish was a third as big as her, very funny cute. Oh, the disabled guy I gave a fish to yesterday, got a nice twenty incher today. When he saw me, this afternoon, he started yelling and waving his fish over his head. So I could see it from across the pond, he was displaying it on the bike path, so no one had to miss seeing it. Praised him greatly on it's size, beauty, and skill in catching.

My big heron buddie was back today, boy they can get quite a few trout in their gullets. Was a little Front heavy when he flew away. Good times were had by all, what a people's and family activity. Quite a few moms and grannies with the kids out there today, doing quite well-thank you. Loaned my measure tape to grannie for, a nice 18 incher. "Now they can't say I'm exaggerating".

Think I will go to the Saturday Market tomorrow, give the fishies a rest. The smart ones will break for the river, the park water is connected to it. Genetic gleaning in action, the smart and the quick get to survive and pass on those genes. Anyhow Sat.Mkt. is a weekly hippie fair and organic produce for sale. "Gird my self for second hand incense and potchouli fumes. Then maybe go slouch around our famous NorthWest coffee houses and do a gallery crawl--see if there is something I have to have. Usually I can't afford the stuff I like. Did get a beautiful painting last Fall. I told you guys about it, called Ritual and Belief--has the Holy Grail as a central motive set in the Cosmos. Very striking. I have it flanked by two Eskimo (Alaskan Inuit)carvings a seal and a walrus--below are a porcelain bluebird and robin (life size--look very real) and my last petrified wood find. Yeah the art needs some up grading.

When I was dropping off fish at work, they were working on suicide protocols/plans--I couldn't help myself. "Come on gang, things aren't that bad are they?"--OOhh?! They're for the patients, my mistake. Then I went into the kitchen/community/dining area to put fish in the fridge. There one of my work buddies, she says, "you are here to gloat (I do have a nice tan, am relaxed, and am in very good spirits/humor), we just keep getting more and more burned out". I said,"no matter what I say you'll believe I am gloating--so I won't argue with your belief". My co workers are quite amusing actually. My little 19yo "cookie friend" (one of our CNA's--magazine/model pretty), asked if I could be used as a reference, said yes. She's always grilling me about places for her and her boyfriend to chase rocks, fish, and stuff. I wonder if the Co. has any amount of job search activity the happens on the office computer.

Well enough of me, Namaste'

"In spiritual life there is no room for compromise. Awakening is not negotiable; we cannot bargain to hold on to things that please us while relinquishing things that do not matter to us. A lukewarm yearning for awakening is not enough to sustain us through the difficulties involved in letting go. It is important to understand that anything that can be lost was never truly ours, anything that we deeply cling to only imprisons us. "

Hi again, Richard - yes, it is a beautiful spring day. the mockingbirds are singing, the blue jays are flying from tree to tree, screeching, as blue jays do. and the love bugs are everywhere. :) squirrels are running and jumping and bunny rabbits are grazing. the sun is shining and there is a cool breeze! the pond across the street is being visited by a grey heron, looking for fish no doubt. and i can see, hear, and feel it all, right from where i am sitting. WOW! and Namasté to you, too!

Arpoch - no apologies necessary! :) i enjoy reading your posts. i'll check out George' link, too. thanks.

yes, Richard - i agree that Pat would enjoy Stranger Suns. what fun i had , too! moving through all those IQR!!

here is a couple more quotes from the book! last ones, i promise, Kate & Terry!

"It may be," Magnus said, "that they grew tired of working within the nature we know. Everything we've seen is a heroic attempt to overcome distance, biological limits, material scarcities. All are prosthetic solutions to the problem of entropy, ways of cheating the universe, by stealing energy from one place and using it in another, to make it do what you want, to help you survive, learn, shape. However sucessful such a civilization would be, it would still have to face the singularities between the cycles of birth and death completely, and build a universe that is not hostile to the survival of intelligence?"

Superspace made no sense unless one accepted it as eternal and infinite; it was incapable of not existing, unlike the things within the quantum fluctuations that were its universes, which existed contingently. There was no logical problem in imagining their nonexistence, but superspace had to be infinite, or it could not serve as a proper basis for the existence of contingent universes. It existed necessarily, because genuine nothingness was impossible; a mere abscence, a vacumn, could always be filled, and made sense only if surrounded by substance. The infinite universe of superspace, therefore, existed as God might have, not needing a beginning. There was no logical difference between an eternal universe and an omnipotent Deity; they both served the same role in explaining existence. Religious mythologies simply rode piggyback on this truth. There was no way to avoid an infinite existence, but at the same time it was infuriating, and unimagineable. Or was it possible that another superspace enclosed this one, and another beyond it? Was it superspaces all the way up and down, with no final up or down, and fixed dynamic space-times in each? Was one kind of infinity preferable to another?

"Yes," Juan answered, "but you could never get to the end of an infinite superspace to know if it was infinite or not. If curvature is unmeasureable for superspace, you'd have to be convinced of its infinite expanse on purely rational grounds."

"That's it!" ... I just reached my moment of total knowing

Nup, sorry. My mistake.

It must have been something I ate ...

Anyway, now that I have your attention. I can't think of anything to say.

On the subject of nothing in particular, has anyone noticed that there are those special moments when words just fail to capture the true astonishment of the very implausible fact that we are all alive and aware of that fact and aware of our awareness of that fact ...

Please disregard this message. I think I'm suffering from sleep-derivation or something like that ...

Apologies to all concerned.

Thanks, Pat & Dijana. I'll be in any conversation on those questions. Actually, I find the one about the Dalai Lama intriguing and amusing at the same time. And having read a fair bit about Tibetan culture and beliefs, I do wonder what each of us has been in past lives. {If you don't believe in rencarnation, don't worry. I didn't believe in it in my ast lives either :)

Reincarnation put such a different spin on how you view your life and those around you. Anybody you encounter during your daily travels could have been a pivotal part of some past life. So, there are no longer any "strangers". Is this making any sense? Maybe I should just stop typing and go to bed ...

A lot of Dijana's questions are tough to "discuss" but are useful to toss around your consciousness from time to time ...

Let me know if any of this makes sense ... it really is time for bed ...

Arpoch has cool links and those animated "do hickey things"...Interesting the stuff on the list that was already in "favorites". Pat, I wish I could write on the quantum level stuff, I have been getting books that present the physics and theory in story form--"hard science fiction". The book "Stranger Suns" that Carol quotes on this page, is about moving through the infinite quantum realities. I just finished a book by Stephen Baxter (Brit Scientist), where he goes into the quantum gravity and vacuum collapse theories and uses the advanced physics theories to explore the nature of time and infinite other comosos(sic) and cosmologies. All this really good new Hard Sci Fi is coming from scientists, they use Heisenberg, Schrodiger, Einstein, Hawking, and the new theorists to weave stories.

It would be fun to get, everyone's ideas on the questions, of Dijanna and Peggy. I know there would be many interesting congruencies and wild differences. Be very interesting if ideas could be presented without the need to correct/convert/criticize.

And now the important stuff, I landed four large trout today--in the 3# range, much fun on microlight gear. I gave them to the disabled and elderly--My PhD boss, our Nursing Mgr., a nice old guy I saw fishing, and a young man --who may have had a little DD stuff. That big heron was there looking for handouts, guess he was a street person last incarnation. Caught countless .75--1# trout. Put them back.

The shameless begging by our "proud" wildlife has always cracked me up. Are like certain animals imprinted to chase a "freebie" (nice term -opportunistic feeding). I have fished lakes in the Cascades, where you throw back a fish. Bingo, a "heroic" Osprey snags it. Flys off then an "proud" bald eagle snags it from the Osprey. Then they're flying and fighting over this fish, when the water below them is teaming with yummy trout. Of course there are the fisherman laughing at the shameless raptor moochers--may not end up on the animal planet channel. Well put on new fishing line, and replenished lost lures.

Funny call the other day, the County called and I get to sit in on the selection process, on new RFP's for funding new mental health programs--here. Money we didn't use last year, under capitation. About a million bucks, so hopefully there will be good proposals, hopefully not the same old muck, that is of quesionable efficacy. I let them pay me very well, I got parity with professionals written in our MHO, charter, for consumer/family participation.

Love all, hope Spring is as fun where ever you are-as it is here---Namaste'
