"No batter how mad things may seem at any given moment ..."
Din't jot down many of the sites visited today but a quick glance at the history file reveals
the following ...
Jataka Tales
Woodpeckers - I loved the next
episode of 'Life of Birds' which showed the various 'strategies' of our winged friends in their constant search for fuel for flapping their appendages ... :)
They also had a great shot of Dave with rainbow lorikeets perched on his shoulder ... and some hummingbirds with amazingly 'specialised' bills ... and others that manage to scrounge sap from the holes drilled by sapsuckers ... so they time their migrations to
coincide with the arrival of those birds rather than, as first thought, the blooming of their favourite flowers ... :)
John Muir's writing looks very appealing ...

Should see if there's a photo of his statue somewhere in cyberspace ... really captures his spirit. {Hey, Geoff, seeing as how it was a local news report ... maybe the statue is in Melbourne somewhere or other ...}
Also another wonderful animated Leunig of a cartoon I aint heard of before ... all about a simpleton ... lemme see if I can transcribe the voice-over from the video ...
The only thing worth being in this life is a simpleton. Yes, a simpleton. But how?
There is no magazine. There is no network. No club. No course. No diploma.
Nope. You have to go it alone.
Yet even then, you don't get the full 'impact' of the visuals with the adorable (constantly smiling) simpletons (made of clay or somethin like that) and the music ... if you're ever in the neighbourhood, pop on over & I'll show you the video ... :)

Heard a wonderful poem this morning on the radio (as I slowly returned to conventional reality from the Land of Nod) ... by
John Betjeman ... and recited quite beautifully ... :)
Oh yes ... this morning I also heard how the Kangaroo came to
have such a name. The first setllers naturally enough were bewildered to see
such a creature - I mean it's unlike anythin you're ever likely to see in
England! Anyway, they asked the natives what the animal was called and the
aborigines replied 'Kangaroo'. So, naturally enough the whiteys thought that
was the name of the animal. However, 'kangaroo' actually means 'we don't
understand you' ! Great story! :)
