Today's mantra: "I was careful in my morning and careful with my boredom."

Down to Cowes again ... is it really ten or eleven days since my last visit ... :)

Just b4 I do leave ... need to fix a couple of the links & images in this page ... esp myplace.htm ???

That shot of me jumping the nerve test - CLICK TO ENLARGE

... plus the roses page from 2001 ... hmmm ... now, where DID I stick that one ...

http://www.curlyflat.net/cartoons/L200602.jpg

I'm now back home and an interestin couple of days one way or another ... hmmm ... could I be more vague ...

Did check out a few old links while briefly using Mum's PC ... one that sticks in the
mind is this one ...

Some more emails ...

That yo-yo page :)

Crossing Over

Seeds of luck

Now there's a combination of words I hadn't read b4 ... preposterously imposters ... click

Oh yes, also on the bus this morning read another sizeable chunk of this book ... it's not often you're on page 555 and there's over 250 pages still to be enjoyed ...

Michael Palin & Ripping Yarns ... some of them are quite funny - one is called 'Across the Andes by frog'. That might have been the origin of the idea for all the travel docos he's done since.

Ripping Yarns

Bonus mantra (walking home form the shops): "I don't hate anybody. There are plenty of people in this world I don't understand because I haven't been where they have been ... but to hate them would be a crazy thing to do ... hatred is the product of a closed mind which has latched onto an idea and wouldn't dare allow itself to question that idea even under the threat of death ... hatred is a poison and one ought to feel compassion towards anyone who has filled themselves with such a poison ..."

Watched an excellent movie last night as well ... click ... it said some interesting things to say about the power of the written word ... as well as a re-statement of the old adage about walking a mile in someone else's moccasins ... esp if that mile happens 2 include being unjustly imprisoned for twenty years ...

Today's mantra: "Just when Johnny was about to discover the secret of (his) life he forgot to keep breathing and was almost ignored by a passing flock of sheep on their way to the nearest green meadow."

Oh yes, also yesterday walking home form the shops ... reflecting on so-called skeptics ... and if one takes one's definition that a skeptic is a person who suspends his/her judgement when there's insufficient evidence (leaving aside the fascinating question of just what WOULD constitute sufficient evidence - I mean even one's own personal, direct experience can be interpreted any number of ways) ... well then, many so-called skeptics are really de-bunkers because, esp if they indulge in mocking or scoffing ... because those are acts of attack and an act of attack certianly does NOT originate from a perspective of having suspended one's judgement ...

That all sounded a lot better in my head before I scribbled it down ...

Testing ...

Quote of the day: "I don't want my number. I don't want my own number."

Checking some old links ...

Cold Bacon

A couple of quotes

How 'bout a few more

This guy has a few as well

Ogden Nash

"Don't we even local mornings. Famous up the many mornings. All we need is a few more gentle mornings."

Prayer wheeel image

A couple more emails ... about people who wanna change the world ... gets the old grey cells ticking over ... I mean when you look around you, how do you even begin to penetrate all the complacency & apathy & the cynicism ... the deep-seated vested-interests ... you'd need some awfully powerful Magick ...

... scribbled a few more thoughts down as I walked home form the shops ... about humans & their comfort zones ... & how few people ever really change ... even when what they're doing couldn't be said 2b working out ...

... plus some thoughts along the lines that the main reason people don't change is that you first have to start being honest with your self ... and if most average people started doing that, their first impulse might well be to put a bullet through their skulls ...

... and well, that's what I continue 2 wrestle with ... part of me is still quite cynical & pessimistic ... and sees a world where the average person invariably passes on their averageness to their off-spring ... and in 99.99 % of cases, a person's true potential is squashed like a bug ...

"Go carry your silver ships of light ..."

"Giving free-will to human beings sounds like a good idea in theory ... "

Oh yes, also from the weekend ... a great Leunig colour cartoon in Saturday's 'Age' ... doesn't seem to appear at their site ... I figured it might well be from his
Curly Pyjama book ...

Today's mantra: "Huge lovely world. Huge lovely mornings."

One more 4 the wtc lists and/or the Leunig pages ... click

Found it via this page - click

More email from fans of my site ... :) ... actually the first one to specifically mention reading 'A journey through madness' ... and wondering why some of us survive more-or-less intact after visiting such dark places ... is it destiny or blind chance ... plus that 1st person website, which no longer takes submissions ... and how once upon a time I'd have absolutely laughed at all this 'new age crap' ... :)

Plus reminded me of some passages in this book ...

Quote of the day ... click :)

November 22, 2002   '

Today's mantra: "Life is a modern example of what can happen if things are allowed to eventuate like this."

Why people don't heal ... and how they can ...

Some incredibly vivid dreams again last night - one I'd love to have on 'film' ... I was in this large bookstore ... but it also had desks like a classroom? ... and I'm opening books - one of which had holographic images in it, which seemed to come to life as the light hit them from different angles ... hmmm ... and a CD which was labelled as 'Free' but also had a price tag of about $12 ... hmmm ... there was also some kind of secret room or a 'Members Only' area ...

Lovely little poem ... click

Was going to take advantage of this burst of gloriously sunny weather by going into ze hills but I slept in a bit ... :)

That dream I mentioned ... may have been somewhat sparked by visiting this site yesterday and then some of its links - like the seeker's sanctum ...

Ought 2b a lovely faceless nameless figure sitting in a peaceful meditative pose

Reading over that Myss atricle again ... yes, woundology would certainly describe places like ERMHA & other rehab programs ... hmmm ...

More emails ...

Mind is ...

More stuff 2 read

More promises we seem programmed to scoff at ...

Just saw an advert on the telly for Yes concert here in Melbourne! ... a 30th anniversary tour ... click

"No. No. No. I'm not really such a crazy bastard ..."

www.nohoax.com - was that the site which mentioned milli-second decisions ??

November 23, 2002   '

Today's mantra: "Human beings are really quite bizarre little creatures. You study them by looking at their medical features."

Also from yesterday ...

Photos - esp the one about the tidy desk :)

This article is more apt this time o' year :)

Saw a story on this photographer last evening ... and seems she has her own site

Thought for the day: (after hearing someone described as one of the most successful authors in Australia) Yes, that might be an accurate description if one judges 'success' by the amount of books sold, but what if the majority of the population are imbeciles and so you can sell a lot of books if you write the kind of fluffy stuff that seems to appeal to the majority, whereas someone else could write much finer quality books & not sell anywhere near as many because he aims for a more refined audience ... :)

"Name those problems & name those problems of life."

Checking some old-ish links ...

Barely recall writing this email & poem??

This list could be 10 times as long given the sites I've visited in ze past year or so :)

Today's mantra: "Don't. Don't. Don't tell me how to live. I've already found the best way to live. To live in a bottle made out of glass and spend each day inspecting the grass."

"Things are not as they seem, nor are they otherwise"
- Zen proverb

Oh yes, walking home from the shops & the market yesterday, I started singing some spontaneous lyrics to the tune of Louis Armstrong's 'What a wonderful world' ... something along the lines of 'I think of the blood running round in my veins, supplying oxygen to my fourteen brains ... '

Also yesterday, I flicked through one of the 2003 'Far Side' desk diaries ... very funny stuff, if you're at all a fan of Gary Larson :)

Just heard a song lyric 'if I were you' ... and it strikes me that's impossible! I know that's stating the bleeding obvious and these words may not quite convey what I'm on about ... but if you actaully WERE the other person then you'd do exactly what they currently do because you'd no longer be yourself ... that sounded heaps better in my head ... :)

Some miscellaneous stuff - checked out the van gogh links ... e.g. this one ...

Did a little search of zen proverb :)

www.ediblebrain.com

"You don't have to be crazy to write poetry but it sure helps ..."

Testing

Plus today's cartoon ... click & scroll down maybe 1/3 of the page, where it says "Regulars:" and then on the cartoon page you may need to press 'previous' until you reach the leunig for Nov 22, okay, so it's really yesterday's cartoon, but I didn't view it until 2day ... :)

The one from Nov 21 aint bad either ... he keeps churning them out ...

www.cloningaround.com - has e-cards as well :)

Quote of the day: "If you tell people the truth, make them laugh or they'll kill you."
- George Bernard Shaw

Found it via the random pages at this little site :)

Also has an interesting reading list ... click

Today's mantra: "I can't help it ... aliens are controlling my mind and my thoughts ..."

More emails ... click :)

OH plus a downpour this morning! I'd almost forgotten what real rain sounds like - can't recall ever seeing things so dry in November. A few of the trees in my yard are shedding leaves in response. Then, while looking for that Melbourne webcam to see what images it may have captured, I found this interesting page - click

Hmmm ... you have to wonder abt that translation mechanism ... when you read pages like this ... I can't imagine anyone saying they 'lie putridly on the couch' ... :)

November 27, 2002   '

Today's mantra: "We all have our dark moments ..."

www.savewater.com.au

Also this page ... click :)

Plus this one & cosmic verse ... :)

Today's mantra: "I wanted to put delicious things in my mouth."

Uncanny!! ... on a bus today I idly wondered about words & vowels and whether any word has all five ... then 10 mins after I get home from a lovely stroll around Sherbrooke forest ... the very same question is answered on the radio ... first time I've ever heard of it or wondered about it ... hmmm ... :)

Browsed a couple of bookshops as well ...

Had a bit of a flick through this one

Small miracles

Eventually purchased a little pocket book about the human back & how to ease the pain in it ...

That man Leunig is at it again - click - depending on when you read this here journal, you may need 2 click on 'Previous' to reach the one for Nov 28th ... :)

Oh yes, the walk ... well, a lovely mild day with enough sun to warm one up, esp up that steep track near Grant's picnic ground ... and as I left the picnic ground there was already a busload of tourists feeding the very tame crimson rosellas, they'll even perch on you if you have food 4 them ... :)

A little further into the forest and I caught a brief glimpse of a kangaroo or wallaby ... then still further on, a lyrebird crossing over a footbridge ... then a kookaburra flying overhead but not laughing as he/she flew ... and still more rosellas, somewhat less tame than the earlier ones ... all in all a pleasant day's outing, which I ought 2 do more often now that spring is nearly over ... :)

You may be interested 2 know that Australia's best book shop is in Belgrave, right near Sherbrooke forest. I mean, it must be Australia's best because there's this huge sign on top of the building, saying just that. :)

November 29, 2002   '

Today's mantra: "You can drive yourself nuts asking questions like that "

Hard to believe the big day is less-than-a-month away ... :)

{Really ought 2 scan the pencil version of today's mantra - which was actually written on a bus yesterday}

Testing ...

- Chuckle of the day

Looked up a few files I'd almost frogotten about ... e.g. this one :)

Kristen's Comedy Corner

Net wits :)

Some zen

More emails ...

Page 146 of this

Some of the quotes in this list ...

Plus a few more sites tacked onto this list ...

{Best if sung in an operatic style}

November 30, 2002   '

Today's mantra: "One day I was stopping and then I was stopping in the little motions. Lovely little motions of the world."

Page 83 aint bad either - seeing through cosmic eyes ... and now I finally have the actual book back in my possession ... so if you want any other pages scanned ... :)

Here's a spot I must get along to one of these daze

They're at it again ...

From one of yesterday's links ... comes this little page ...

Plus the quote on their home page: "We really do have natural, built-in ways of psychological healing. With attention and adequate resource, anyone can reemerge from even the greatest distress and most extreme states of mind."

Interesting exchange of views :)

A 'divider' in the form of a kite on a long piece of string

Lovely pic from Rose's birthday in 2000 - Olivia & Rose in the kitchen at Bunyip looking angelic - the kind of photo that invariably evokes the comment 'Isn't it a shame they have to grow up' ...
