Goldeneye 007 Controls & Techniques

If you want to have much success on the more difficult settings in Goldeneye, you better master the controls and techniques of Bond to take full advantage of the game's playablility.  While Bond can go out with guns blazing, the most important skills in Goldeneye come from aim, bullet-dodging, and stealth. Take a look at these maneuvers and succeed!

Look around: Try stopping once in a while to check out your environment; not only can you observe some of the coolest graphics in gaming, but you may find that armor you've been needing!

Reload: Manually reload your gun whenever you can, so you avoid getting stuck out of ammo in the middle of a shoot-out.  Enemies will leave 20 rounds (Agent), 15 (Secret Agent), or 10 (00 Agent).

Sidestep: If you don't know how to strafe, or just don't want to, Bond's going home in a body bag.  No more should you be afraid of confronting enemies in open rooms--zig zag while firing.

Aim: This can be rather difficult to master for a while, but trust me, the 00 Agent setting can be almost impossible without it. For more control, set the aiming so you don't have to hold down R.

Kneel: This maneuver can seem rather awkward at first, and it continues to be awkward later on.  Beating the game doesn't require this technique, so don't waste your time on it.

Run 'n Gun: Doing a kamikaze run at enemies can have its advantages if you've mastered the controls. You'll notice right away that when enemies get hit, they are briefly stunned (if your aim isn't perfect) and you've got time to aim again--this time at the head!

Item Check: If you're stuck in a mission, try checking your inventory. Q doesn't give you any unnecessary gadgets, so if you've got mines or plastic (Silo) or a bomb defuser (Frigate), etc., you'll probably have to use them somehow to complete the level.
