    Is either a seeker after truth or a mere trickster. Rod=force of will

2 THE HIGH PRIESTESS

    Enlightment. Warning to keep a close watch on our souls, and on the truths we know and to be

    aware of careless speech.

 

3 THE EMPRESS

    Female influence ,and the entrance into this life. In a field of ripe corn

4 THE EMPEROR

    Command over the material world; the active male principle of conquest and domination.

                                                                                     In a woman marriage

 

5 THE POPE OR HIEROPHANT

    Spiritual rule more lasting than the domination of the Emperor, doctrine and conscience.

                                                                                       The two upright pillars are Law and Liberty

 

 

6 THE LOVERS

    Represent choice (between vice and virtue)

 

7 THE CHARIOT

 

    He is not guiding the horses; he has mastered his animal-passions. This card indicates the end of

     the first stage of development

 

8 THE BALANCE

     Represents  Divine Justice; not blindfolded, and strictly impartial, she warns us that we are all

      being watched by Eternal Eyes

 

9 THE HERMIT

    Has a tiny flame in his lantern, which is mind’s illumination. He signifies caution

 

10 THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE

      Osiris, preserver of life, presides over the wheel to remind us that those raised high in the

       world may expect a reverse

 

11 THE ENCHANTRESS

      Wears a hat like the juggler’s, and is therefore exerting spiritual and moral force over the

       baser passions of others, shown in the fierce lion

 

12  THE HANGED MAN

       This rather surprising equanimity, and the coins falling out of his pocket, combine to

        symbolise voluntary sacrifice

 

13 THE REAPER

      The well-known gruesome symbol of death, can have a more subtle meaning, that of

       the death of the old self, and a new life to come

 

14 THE ANGEL OF TIME

      Pours inspiration from above; or, in another respect, represents merely the influence exerted by

       suggestion

 

15 THE BLACK MAGICIAN

      The ominous figure is that of Pan, God of Nature. He represents misuse of our potentialities

       , and blind folly

 

16 THE LIGHTNING-STRUCK TOWER

      Shows the rude shattering of illusions, and possibly material loss

 

17 THE STAR OF HOPE

      The promise of better things to come

 

18 THE MOON

      Her light distorts, bringing despair, bad dreams and difficulties

 

19 THE SUN

      Is  kind, bringing happiness, virtue and triumph

 

20 THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT

      Warns us of our responsibilities and obligations

 

21 THE WORLD

      Represents a reward, which may be material gain or simply self-mastery

      is the unnumbered card; his bundle is the total sum of past experiences; he symbolises the end

      of one cycle of life and the beginning of another
