A classic.
A bunch of teens were sitting around at a party, just hanging out, when one of the boys turned his attention to the cemetery just next door to the house. It was a particularly creepy cemetery, because it was very old and the tombstones were in various states of disrepair. Like most old cemeteries, this one also had its share of legend and scary folklore surrounding it. Deciding the party had been too tame, the boy offered a dare that nobody had the guts to go into the cemetery and plunge a knife into one of the graves. At first, it looked as though he was right, until a soft voice from the corner of the room said, "I'll do it." Everyone was surprised to see one of the more meek and unpopular girls had made the statement. The boy took her up on it, saying she had to drive the knife into the grave of a woman who had been particularly unpleasant in life. Rumors had abounded that she was even a witch. Still, the girl persisted in taking the dare, probably in hopes of increasing her social standing with her peers.
As she traveled to her destination, she tried to talk herself out of hearing the various noises that seemed to swell around her. She willed her heart to stay within its normal rhythm. She concentrated on her goal, and soon she came upon the grave. She ran to the stone, plunged the kitchen knife deep into the earth and turned to flee. She immediately felt a pull and fell! Something had her skirt tight in its grip and seemed determined to pull her into the ground. She frantically tried to scramble away, but it was useless. Soon all was blackness for the hapless teen.
Her friends were terrified for her when she didn't return, but not one of them had the nerve to go after her. When daylight broke, the people who had stayed over sought her out. They found her dead on the grave of the nasty old woman. Her eyes were wide open in complete horror, her nails were filled with dirt from trying to crawl and claw away from her captor. It was instantly apparent what had happened. Horrified that the witch's hand had reached out from the grave, the girl had died of fright. If only she had known she had driven the knife through her skirt in her haste to leave the cemetery!
