Jefferson Airplane was one of the great bands of San Fransisco's Haight-Ashbury district in the 60's. The first of the San Fransisco hippie bands to sign a contract with a major record label, the Airplane was one of the most influential and best-loved bands of the era. With their #1 hit, "Somebody To Love," the band has been a radio mainstay since 1967. Its success due in no small part to singer Grace Slick, who brought "Somebody To Love" with her from another band, Airplane has always been known for its loud, rebellious music that both molded and mimicked the hippie movement and way of life.
