Greatful Dead
The Greatful Dead came into the picture in the mid 1960's and were almost immediately a calling to this hippy nation that had evolved across the country as civil rights issues became more important. The legendary name was chosen from a randomly opened copy of the Oxford English Dictionary, the juxtaposition of words evidently appealing to members of the band, who were at the time somewhat chemically stimulated. The Grateful Dead have been synonymous with the San Francisco/Acid Rock scene since its inception in 1965 when they took part in Ken Kesey's Acid Tests.

Their music started as a combination of rock, blues, and R&B, but has always had the famous quality of being long, wandering, and improvisational. When there first album was released in 1967, they already had a small following of what would be soon known as DEAD HEADS. The Greatful Dead's signature "marathon" concerts began facing a few years later. After the third album was released, the band's sets were getting longer an longer, sometimes lasting about six hours and only playing six songs the whole time.
