If I''m to believe the LDS search, Richard Cantril was my ggggggggrandfather. From Richard through, Joseph, John, John, Isaac, Leonard, Isaac Denton and my grandfather George. George''s daughter, Artie Myrtle (91 years old) is my mother. I have had little interest in my ancestors until recently when I ran across a couple of web sites and then went to the LDS site. I''m not sure where you fit into the scheme, I''ll have to figure you out later. :>)

My Grand Daddy was JOHN CANTRELL who ran a store in Rome Georgia late forties/fifties. Later ran a dine and dance place in Acworth Ga. My father Aubrey Sr. Died this week, we werent very close. I was the forgotten child from the first marriage. He had three kids from his second marriage.

I have gotten close on some connections before but allways ran into deadends.

Believe mine all came down from around North Carolina, settled across Ga. and moved into Alabama and beyond.

My name is Ron Gerard, currently of Kalispell, Montana. Recently of San Jose, California and originally of Cushing & Pryor, Oklahoma. Son of James N. Gerard (recently deceased) of Sand Springs, Okalhoma. Formerly of Santa Cruz and Los Gatos, California and originally from Drumright, Cushing & Pryor Oklahma. James N. was the son of Ronald Earl Gerard of Claremore, Oklahoma. Ronald E. Gerard was the son of WILLIAM P. GERARD who married LAURA S. CANTRELL.

LAURA CANTRELL (B. 1857 McMINVILLE, TN - D. 1942 CLAREMORE, OK) WAS THE DAUGHTER OF TALMA CANTRELL WHO MARRIED SALLY ANN JONES. They lived in Claiborne, Oklahoma.

TALMA CANTRELL (7th generation descendant of RICHARD CANTRELL) WAS THE SON OF EPHRAIM, son of AARON, son of Isaac, son of John, son of Joseph, who was the oldest son of RICHARD CANTRELL using spelling of Cantrill).

Richard was a resident of Philadelphia prior to 1689

Most likely descended from the Derbyshire branch of the English family. He was likely descended from either William Cantrill or Henry Cantrill. William Cantrill, Gentleman, arrived in America at Jamestown, VA, 1608, by the ship Phenix. (The name is spelled Cantrill as well as Cantrell in all of the VA Historical Records.) William was certainly under the leadership of Captain John Smith once arrived in Jamestown. William accompanied Capt. John Smith on June 2, 1608, on "his discoveries of Chesapeake Bay." "CANTRILL'S POINT was named for the discoverer and was "betwixt the Patawomuk and Pamuke" now the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers.

It is said that William was likely present at the Baptism of Pocahantas.

Back to RICHARD. In 1693, he married Dorothy Jones, daughter of Ellis and Jane Jones, who came to America from either Flint or Denbigh, Wales, in the ship SUBMISSION in 1682. Ellis Jones and his family were Quakers and RichardCantrill was of the Church of England.
