Performing Arts at Bahai Summer School, Whk 1999
Performing Arts Competition
International Bahá'í Summer School
Performing Arts Committee
26 October 1999
To: the Bahá'ís who are attending the International Summer School of Namibia
Subject: Performing Arts Competition
Dear friends,
The Performing Arts Committee is asking all Bahá'í communities in Namibia and outside to take part in the entertainment programme. As an incentive to foster greater participation and appreciation of the importance of performing arts, the committee has decided to host a performing arts competition.
Groups as well as individual (or solo) acts are encouraged especially cultural performances. Please do not be afraid to perform or think that a performance must be professional. Anyone, who focuses their attention on serving the Faith and prepares himself or herself well, will receive assistance from Bahá'u'lláh and is capable of performing. The whole idea is to inculcate and encourage various cultural groups to perform to show our unity in diversity.
The competition has been organised into three categories:
1) Music (choir, group and solo singing, piano, guitar, traditional instruments, etc.)
2) Dance (African, modern, classical, etc.)
3) Drama (poetry, plays, dramatic or choral readings of Bahá'í writings, etc.)
Subsidies will be available for some performers. Please inform the Committee as soon as possible if you want to perform or if you want to apply for financial assistance through subsidy, please contact one of the members of the Performing Arts Committee:
Sophia Tekie (264 61) 248273, P. O. Box 86088, Windhoek;
Nadia Belete (264 61) 256242, P. O. Box 4619, Windhoek; or
Renate Priebe (264 61) 224249.
The deadline for subsidy applications as well as registration to perform is October 20, 1999. Entries submitted after 30 November 1999 are not guaranteed a place, but can always be considered depending on the number of requests received.
The committee is also looking for Judges and Master of Ceremonies for the evening programmes. The committee would like to have friends who are artists or have inclination towards arts to volunteer for such service.
After the committee looks at all the requests a confirmation will be sent to the volunteers, either to be Judges or MCs.
In loving service to His Cause,
The Performing Arts Committee
