Changing the Matrix.mc and / or the player savefile file to support up to 23 opponents races. NOTE: To prevent corrupting your current career seasons, you MUST follow these instructions *TO_THE_LETTER* - When in doubt, backup, backup, backup ('cause ya' never know)! Also be sure to read my (and Marc's) "Pros & Cons" at the end of this thread. Setting the values beyond the recommended numbers will cause the sim to crash! ***************************************************************************** * Editing the Matrix.mc for total season support * ***************************************************************************** This will automaticly get you more opponents when you set season opponents to "MAX" in the menues. 1) Move all items out of the SCGT\Save folder to a safe place - this includes all player files, etc. This is just for safty. If you want to experiment it's up to you but don't try and make me explain what you did wrong when all your players are messed up. 2) Using Winzip, extract the Matrix.mc file (located in the Dat folder) to a temp directory. 3) Backup the original Matrix.mc to a safe place. 4) Using Notepad, open the extracted Matrix.mc file. 5) Scroll to the following lines: // Number of Opponents per level CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 05 //Low CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 07 //Med CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 11 //High CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 15 //Max 6) Edit the last line from 15 to a value between 16 to 23. Now it should look something like this: // Number of Opponents per level CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 05 //Low CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 07 //Med CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 11 //High CAREER_OPPONENT_QUANTITY = 23 //Max 7) THIS IS IMPORTANT! Change the tracks in each carreer so that you don't have tracks in here that not support 24 car fields. Unsupported tracks are Hockenheim and Mosport. I will add support for these tracks when the pits can fit more cars. 8) Save the file back to the Dat folder. SCGT will not re-compress Matrix.mc, so you can always open it with Notepad again for later tweaking. 10) Create a new Player and select Career Mode (or if you experiment just start a new season and skip step 10). 11) Purchase a car, and then select New Season. 12) Set the conditions for the season except Opponents - Set this value to "Max." 13) Select the "New Season" button to accept the values. ---------------------------------------- **Pros: - You can have as many as 23 opponents to race against. - Larger fields (for those that can run 'em) are much more fun than the puny 15 car fields shipped with SCGT. - List your own "Pros" here. =) **Cons: - Requires more CPU horsepower to run smoothly, and more 3D card power as well ; >) . - SCGT will crash the first time you EXIT the sim, but it doesn't appear to happen at all after that. - 23 opponents is the limit - any more, and the sim will crash before you even get to the track (This is also confirmed by ISI) - You have to edit your Matrix.mc a bit. *********************************************************************************** * Editing the player savefile * *********************************************************************************** To do the similar only in your player save file as an example I use the player "gt40" 1) Backup the original player save file to a safe place. 2) Extract the player save file just as the Matrix.mc (inside "gt40.PLR I find a file called just "gt40") 3) Using Notepad, open the extracted player savefile "gt40". 4) Now depending on if you do career or quickrace do 4.1 or 4.2 or both 4.1) Quickrace - Scroll down to the following line in the section [Gameoptions] "Opponents=" Now set this value to sommething between 0-23. Do step 4.2) for Season or jump to step 5) 4.2) Scroll to the following line in the section [CurrentSeason] : "Opponents=" Edit the line from 15 to 23 (Not 24 or above). The maximum number of opponents that the exe can handle is 23! 5) Save the file back to the player save folder folder. SCGT will re-compress the file, so you have to decompress it to open it with Notepad again for later tweaking. 6) Start SCGT. Start up a race DO NOT I repeat DO NOT go to the "race setup" tab because the built in max number in the exe file is 15. This meens that going to the race setup tab will alter the number of opponents back to 15 again. I have not found where to alter this (Hex Hackers HELP ME PLEASE!) ---------------------------------------- **Pros: - You can have as many as 23 opponents to race against. - Larger fields (for those that can run 'em) are much more fun than the puny 15 car fields shipped with SCGT. - List your own "Pros" here. =) **Cons: - Requires more CPU horsepower to run smoothly. - SCGT will crash the first time you EXIT the sim, but it doesn't appear to happen at all after that. - 23 opponents is the limit - any more, and the sim will crash before you even get to the track. This is verified with ISI. - The track need waypoints for all 24 cars in the pits for the automatic pitstops to work and it needs start positions for all cars. Not all tracks have that yet. Se what tracks are supported in the patch and don't try this with any other tracks!! ------------------------------------------- ******* Finaly some helpful tips with known install problems. ************* A crash during first startup is very common for some reason even without the problems found below. If you get a crash do at least follow advice 1a and delete the "~tempsvm" directory. 1. A very common error is that when you first start up the game after updating is that all cars are frozen to the ground with wheels spinning. Also I have seen missplaced cars that fly around with crash recovery that does ont work and so on. Fix 1a) To fix this is usually very easy. what you have to do is delete the directory "~tempsvm" in \scgt\dat Take a peak inside the files sometime and you will understand why. Fix 1b) You could also have corrupted the scene.mas while importing the waypoint files with readmas2. If so delete the corupted scene.mas copy your backup to your DAT directory and reimport all the files. 2. Sometimes the game crashes during first race load after install with the message "Could not locate texmap file D:\SPEL\SCGT\WNDA5XX" or alike. What is common is the file that scgt cant find "WNDA5XX" This file does not exist and has never. This seems to be a general error code when mas files are totaly messed up Fix 2 Get you backup of scene.mas do a new copy and re import the waypoint files. You did backup I hope ; >) --------------------------------------------- Thanks Marc for writing the first version of this! I hope you didn't mind me steeling and updating it! Good Luck! GT40-Steven
