This tragic case involved the shooting deaths of two veteran officers, killed by a subordinate. The killer was a Sheriff's deputy assigned to the joint counter narcotics task force. When the two senior officers caught the man burglarizing the evidence room at the office, the man shot his superiors several times, killing both. This occurred when the Lieutenant and Sergeant went to the office after hours on the July 4th weekend. Neither senior officer was armed at the time. The killer was on methamphetamine at the time of the murders. This case serves to prove that law enforcement is a very dangerous profession and that officers are at risk at all times. The killer was sentenced to life in prison. Both slain officers left a wife and children. Their sacrifice will never be forgotten.

Lieutenant Dan Elkins, killed in the above incident, was one of my firearms instructors at the law enforcement academy. This site is dedicated to his memory.
