BASIC INFORMATION:
EVENT DATES: Friday night through Sunday, September 19th thru 21st, 2003 (Rain or Shine!)
ZOOKCENTRAL: Windy Acres Campground, Safari Section
Line up times vary for each trail run on all days and will be departing sharply at their respective times from ZookCentral. If you snooze, you will lose, SO PLEASE BE ON TIME! This year, the runs wait for no one.
BIG HINT: Fill your rig up with fuel before you come out to the campground. There are NO fueling stations in town. The nearest fueling station is in Easthampton or Leeds (about 20+ minutes away).
IMPORTANT!!!
This event is limited to Suzuki-based vehicles only. There will be a maximum of 40 rigs allowed to sign up for the event, NO EXCEPTIONS, unless you are from a major Magazine or Web Site.
THERE IS A MAXIMUM OF 10 TRUCKS PER TRAIL RIDE!!!
Sign-up is on a first come, first serve basis. There will be a standby list to fill opening if the become available. Sign up early!
There are no fees associated with the trail runs. The only costs will be for the campground (which you pay at the campground), for the optional Zookin' Y2K3 dinner, and for Zookin' Y2K3 event decals (if they happen).
EQUIPMENT POLICY:
There are basic equipment requirements. There will be a technical inspection before each run by the trail leaders. THIS IS GOING TO BE STRICTLY ENFORCED THIS YEAR!!!! The trail leaders word is final. This is not a safety inspection, merely an inspection to verify that the items required are on each vehicle. We will try to help you fix or install things if time permits, but please don't show up with a "junker" and expect to participate. Your truck should be reliable and in good working order. You are responsible for your own safety, your passengers and the people around you. Drive smart!
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR ALL VEHICLES:
COMMON SENSE!
Aggressive All-Terrain or Mud-Terrain tires, with good tread
Properly sized spare tire
Tow hooks, D-rings or Clevis/Pin Shackles, front AND rear
Factory roll bar, at minimum. Make sure there's no rust under stock bar!! (Not applicable to hard top Samurai models or Sidekick/Tracker/Vitara models)
Working seat belts or harnesses for ALL passengers
A 20,000 pound (min.) tow strap (Looped ends only, NO METAL HOOKS)
An ABC-rated Fire Extinguisher, securely mounted and easily reachable
All equipment secured in the back of your rig. Stay away from bungy cords if possible, go with nylon straps. We don't need someone getting bonked by a High-lift!
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR INTERMEDIATE (Rock Crab) TRAIL VEHICLES:
Minimum 29" aggressive tires, Mud-Terrain or similar
Hi-Lift jack
Rear locker, limited slip differential or traction adding device (recommended front and rear)
Adequate rock protection
REQUIRED EQUIPMENT FOR ADVANCED (Rock Lobsters) TRAIL VEHICLES:
Minimum 5" suspension lift
Minimum 31" aggressive mud tires
Front and rear lockers, limited slip differential or traction adding devices
Drive line gear reduction(s)
Extensive rock protection (you'll need it!)
Spare parts (you'll need them too!)
RECOMMENDED (Optional) EQUIPMENT:
First-aid kit
Winch
Locker or Traction-adding Device (TAD) in rear differential (required for advanced rigs)
Hi-lift jack (required for advanced rigs)
Tree-Saver strap, Pull-Pal and snatch blocks (winch users only)
Spare gas (in DOT-approved cans only)
Potable water
CB Radio for on trail communications (unless you don't want to talk to anyone)
GPS (for those who must have everything)
Warm clothes (it gets cold in them thar hills)
A trustworthy spotter
Assortment of tools & lots of spare parts (axles, driveshafts & U-joints are most common)
A trail lunch
Camera and film
And, lastly, a fresh change of underwear!
ALCOHOL AND DRUG POLICY:
Drinking of alcoholic beverages or use of illegal drugs WILL NOT be tolerated on the trails at all.
If you are found violating this policy, you will be asked to leave immediately and will not be allowed back, ever!. If you can't have fun 4-wheeling without these, please don't come at all. There will be plenty of time to drink, socialize and whatever back at ZookCentral. Just don't overdue so to ruin your fun and possibly the fun of others.
RIG REPAIR AND SERVICE:
There will be a compressor for airing up close to ZookCentral both days after the runs. If you are on your best behavior, Glenn L. will make his workshop available for needed repairs. (Welding too.)
