: I think I found the source of the CHIRPS. I removed the exhaust tubes and found that there was some Blow-By (and soot) at a couple of the copper gaskets in the heads. The ends of these pipes must be flat, parallel and free of nicks, dents and high spots. Since the hard copper "gaskets" are non-crushable, everything must be in good contact, otherwise, you get "Soot Farts"
