: : I AM NEW TO VW ENGINES, AND SEEING ALL THE PROBLEMS THAT CROP UP ON THIS FORUM, CAN I ASSUME THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A VW ENGINE THAT RUNS GOOD, AND/OR HAS NO PROBLEMS. I SURE HOPE IM WRONG.......

: Don't know about the others, but mine runs great. Just got back from a 1,000 mile trip without any problems at all.
: Runs out just fine. Might be like a Harley, depends who works on it and how much they do to it (what parts they use, etc.) Some run great while others fall apart after a few miles....Actually I guess that goes for about any M/C or cage...

:hello,
I hate to see anyone t turned off to a vw aircooled enigine. I feel this is one of the most duarable engines ever built, and how they last and
run is up to the owner you have to take care of them and keep the oil clean,it's an air cooled engine, and oil plays a big part in its cooling,
my father had a type3 that went about 150,000 miles with nothing more than tune ups then at 150,000 miles he sold it to a co worker who gave it to their daughter who put about another 50,000 on it and at that time it lost a valve only that valve was fixed and about another 15 to 20,000 miles was put on it at that time it was wrecked, sure this was a tired engine due for rebuild but it was still running good, this is not the life story of all vw's but some see this and better.many of the problems on this forum are from poor up-keep,and abuse ,and i know i for one come off sometimes like im pissing and moaning about the engine when the problem is my fault not the engines, steel always trys to out smart us,i have a 1835 with dual carbs and big heads and big cam etc, so i do have a bit more tuning than stock but mine stays in tune and rips down the road just fine,so think about giving the vw a chance.
best of luck, bob lazar.
