: bob i think you ll find in most disc brake situations youll find that the mc piston is a whole lot smaller than the caliper piston and in drum brakes alot of time they are very near the same size but the piston really has twice the area because it has 2 pistons and volume is not the same as sq in look up in you fluid mechanics handbook :Sir you are right, square inches of surface area is not the same as volume.however a piston displaces something that being a "volume".and in this case the piston moves in a cylinder pushing the pad or shoe against a moving surface to stop its ming.To me this is getting to be a play on words. you keep rewording and repeating what i said from the start,and that is the master cylinder needs to be smaller than the slave cylinder or cylinders that it is moving.with that said,thats all i have to say on this subject, thanx for all your imput.bob lazar.
