John Surges "vintage" modified stock car. It was built in 1963-64 by Lyle Ferguson. Drivers included Lee Weber and Eddie Loomis and it raced mostly at Capitol Speedway and Jefferson in central Wisconsin.
VINTAGE MODIFIED STOCK CAR CLUB
The Wisconsin area is rich in racing history. The big track, known as the Wisconsin mile has been in existance for what seems like forever. It of course has been the host of some of the best early day Indy car racing on record. In recent years it's been ASA late model's that's been getting most of the attention.
Wisconsin is also known for some of the best early day racing on some of it's smaller "bull rings" around the state. One of America's premier midget racing tracks is located in Wisconsin ...Angel Park has hosted years of midget racing and is still in existance today running one of the best and one of the few weekly midget programs in the US.
Stock cars....or should I say...modified stock cars are what we're going to talk about now. Back in the 1960's Wisconsin was a "hotbed" for the powerful little coupe and sedan bodied modifieds. They were always easy to identify.....with their snow blade front bumpers and hiked up front ends, the short wheel bases and those great looking bodies....they were real racing machines. Many of the central Wisconsin tracks ran the modifieds at one time. Capitol Speedway, Jefferson, Hales Corners, Sheboygan and Beaver Dam were some of the tracks hosting these mighty mods. State Fair Park in West Allis also hosted them on occassion.

Now, in modern times the little modifieds are again being "showcased".....only this time around , they are known as "VINTAGE" Modifieds. Yes, those little coupes and sedans are now being re-born and a new club in the Milwaukee, Wisconsin area has popped up and invites you......anyone interested in these modifieds as either an owner, driver, mechanic or fan to contact them and find out what the excitement is all about. They also have a great "newsletter" with all kinds of information.
