1960's MODIFIEDS OF WISCONSIN

***Be sure to check out the cartoon characters on most of these cars and some of these "nicknames" of the drivers are great.

Gene "Pedro" Roehl car.

Gino Wagner #95.

Etchie Biertzer 1965 with the #1. He was known as the "Flyin Granpa". I like that name...Sweet-n-Sassy!

#8 Paul Feldners 1965. Chrysler Airflow body with a 426 "Wedge" under the hood. Paul would later go on to become a USAC Late Model champion.

#11 is Willie Goeden with his ride.

The car of Ken "Mighty Mouse" Markwardt.

Miles "The Mouse" Melius leading Fuzzy "The Hound" Fassbender at State Fair Park in West Allis, Wis. in 1962. In July of that year Melius would be injuried when his throttle stuck wide open during qualifying and he hit the first turn wall, flipped over a road grader and landed off the track upright. The front end of his car was torn off...he was sidelined for most of the year. But, the car was rebuilt and he returned to the tracks at the end of the season to race again.

#71 Greg Krieger in 1964.

Here's Miles Melius again in a 1961 photo. He won every race that year at Beaver Dam, Wis.

#A3 of Johnny Reimer.

Ken "Tweety Bird" Tlougon in 1962.

Here's Billy "The Cat" Johnson in his #3 in 1963.

Fuzzy Fassbender in 1963.

This is Carl Kulow at Plymouth, Wisconsin in late 50's or early 60's.

Special thanks to John Surges for these old photos of the Wisconsin racers. They're "GREAT".
