Latest Updates
Impreza/Forester 06/22/00
Legacy 6/22/00

I am changing the format a little this year. I will use photographs very sparingly to shorten download times. There will be just as many photos available, but by using short cuts you can look at just what you. Is this the year it all comes together? Of course it's way too early to tell for sure but it looks like some of the most important Legacy issues have been taken care of this time around. Here are just a few of them:

Rear shock towers...gone!   Hood scoops...gone!   Rear spoilers...gone!   2.2 engine...gone!   DOHC 2.5...gone!   Right Hand Drive...gone!

Limited Splip Differential...available!   Power drivers seat...available!   Side air bags...available!   Built in rear child seat...available!   Beige cloth and beige leather interiors...available!

Folding side view mirrors...standard!

With the exception of certain engines and colors, the new 2000 Subaru Legacy line up is now virtually identical to those vehicles available to the rest of the world.

Here are the available exterior color schemes.
Needless to say the real colors are much more vibrant.

Interior Colors

Once again gray is the predominant interior color. However for 2000 the regular Outback Wagons in Winestone,Wintergreen and Timberline, and Outback Limited Wagons in Winestone ,White and Timberline all get a beige interior, standard. The cloth patterns are similar to last years, except for the Outback which looks a lot nicer.

The Spec's

All legacys have the SOHC 2.5 liter engine producing 165hp and 166ft lb of torque. This is the same engine found in the 1999 Forester and 2.5 Impreza RS. Everyone agrees that the single overhead cam gets up and goes much better than the dual overhead version.

Fuel capacity is increased by a gallon to 16.9.

A limited slip differential is standard on all GT's and Outback Limiteds and is now a part of the All Weather Package for the regular edition Outback Wagon.

A multi link rear suspension replaces struts in the rear. This allows for almost the full width of the trunk or cargo storage area to be used.

Stopping is improved with 11.3" brake rotors in the rear. The Brighton still uses drum brakes back there however. While we're on the subject the Brighton and the L both get 15" wheels this year but the Brighton has hub caps and the L gets alloys. All Outbacks and GT's will have 16" alloy wheels.

The dimensions are:

104.3" Wheelbase
184.4" Length (sedan)
187.4" Length (wagon)
68.7" Width
55.7" Height
58.3" Height (Outback)
38.9"Front Headroom
38.1 Front Headroom with moonroof
36.6 Rear Headroom
43.3 Front Legroom
34.2 Rear Legroom

There are some telling indications in these measurements. The vehicles are a fraction shorter, slightly wider and have a longer wheelbase than the 1999s. These differences from the previous Legacy models should make the newer versions handle even better than before with more pep and superior traction, especially for those vehicles equipped with a limited slip differential.
