BLUE LINE - THE EARLY YEARS        [4]

Blue Line buses originated in Armthorpe, being the 'house style' of Mr R. F. H. Wilson, who began his bus service between that village and Doncaster in 1922.  Early vehicles were painted blue, and some bore names such as Blue Canoe, Blue Bird and Blue Lagoon.  The first double-decker to join the fleet bore the Blue Line fleet-name which became so familiar in this area north-east of Doncaster for half a century thereafter.  Mr Wilson's bus shared the route with that of Albert Braim. who appears to have inaugurated the service two years earlier.  They were joined in 1925 by Stainforth bus operator Ernest Parish, trading as Felix Motors, and in 1927 by Doncaster Corporation.

In 1930, Mr Wilson purchased the business of Stainforth bus operator Samuel Morgan.  Morgan had part of a joint service between Dunscroft (Kidson's Stores) and Doncaster via Stainforth, Barnby Dun and Kirk Sandall.  He also had a part of the twenty-four mile long route between Doncaster and Goole which duplicated the Dunscroft route between Doncaster and Stainforth and then continued by way of Thorne, Moorends and Rawcliffe to Goole.  Morgan's vehicles included a number of Reos and Vulcans which operated under the fleet name Gwen Motors.  The company was incorporated under the title S. Morgan Ltd.  After the purchase, Mr Wilson traded as Blue Line, S. Morgan Ltd.
