1946 TO 1959                    [8]

Blue Line broke new ground again with the arrival in 1955 of LJW 336.  Built in 1953, this 30ft-long 44-seat bus had been a demonstrator for Guy Motors and was the prototype for Guy's lightweight underfloor-engined models.  Saved from the cutting torch by a series of fortunate circumstances, this vehicle is now preserved.  Here it is receiving a fresh coat of paint at Acaster Malbis, York.                [Photo: Stefan Torres]

The Goole to Doncaster route was mainly worked by single deck buses of the Guy marque in the late 'fifties and early 'sixties.  Seen here at Thorne Park Gates is RWT 613, a Guy Arab UF with a 44-seat body by Burlingham.

Blue Line were leaders in the Doncaster area in ordering 30ft long, 73-seat double deckers.  The first, SWU 876, was a Guy Arab 1V exhibited at the 1956 Commercial Motor Show.  The second, TYG 4, arrived in 1957.  A supreme workhorse, this bus clocked up more than half a million miles in service before being sold for scrap.
