Using the Channel Information Window

The channel information window is used for a variety of things.
These things can be performed in other ways also, but the
channel information window makes it simple.

Setting the topic
.
To set or change the topic, double left click on the main
channel window.  You will see this screen come up:
.
.
Then simply fill in the topic line.
If you use color in the topic, the listing in the channel list
will also show up in color.
(It won't show in color in the topic line in the channel, however)
.
You can also set the topic by typing
 /msg X@channels.undernet.org topic # `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`> #mIRC Help for the Entire Family <´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´
I've made this easier for myself by creating some aliases that would look like this:
/topic2 /msg X@channels.undernet.org topic # `·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`> #mIRC Help for the Entire Family <´¯`·.¸¸.·´¯`·.¸¸.·´
When I see one I like, I add it to my aliases.

Setting Channel Modes
.
The channel modes are as follows:
                        (t)=topic-set-by-ops,
(p)=private (only users presently in channel no joins (won't
                                    show /names #)
                             (s)=secret (wont show in channel list)(wont show /names #)
                             (n)=no outside messages to #channel,
                             (k)=key (password),
(i)=invite (invited user only will be able to join)
(l)=limits number of people in channel,
                             (m)=moderated-ops-only-speak,
                             (+v)=lets non-ops speak in +m (moderated channel).
.
To change them, either checkmark or un-checkmark the box.
.
You can also set and unset these modes by typing:
/mode # +i (or whatever mode you are setting)
/mode # -i (to unset it again)
.
Dummies is usually has the (t) and (n) checkmarked
.

.
Bans
.
Probably the easiest way to ban a person is to right click and use the
ban popup.  Sometimes we might ban accidentally or
at other times, we might feel that a person has been banned long
enough.
.
In order to unban a person who has been
banned *not* through X, you can go to the
channel information window and simply delete them there.
You should generally NOT unban a person banned by another op
without checking with them first or with girlybear or
an administrative op.
.
You can also ban and unban without using X by typing:
/mode # +b nick (or ip)
/mode # -b nick (or ip)
.
