Sounds
Hi at this section of the pre-ops training we are gonna learn about sounds. How to set up for sounds, how to request a wav, and how to play a wav. Just follow these simple directions and you will have no problem at all!!
First of all you want to make sure you are set up correctly. For BASIC SOUND Click File/Options/Sounds Check FIRST 5 Boxes, and make sure the path to your wavs is specified correctly in the location boxes.
When a sound is played on IRC, the file is not actually sent to you, but your computer checks to see if you have that particular file on your OWN harddrive....If you do, the sound is played.... If you don't, you can request that wav!!
To "GET" WAVS type !nick wavename.wav for example: !Tip wiggle.wav
To play a WAV you have three options. To play a wav so only you hear it type --> /splay wavname.wav, and for everyone else to hear it type --> /sound wavname.wav, and to play to only one other person type --> /sound nick wavname.wav message!
Definiton of options in the sound folder
Accept sound requests: If this option is turned on, mIRC will listen for the /sound requests from other users.
Ignore if sound is currently playing: If a sound is already playing and a new sound request is received, you can either have mIRC halt the currently playing sound and play the new sound, or you can choose to have mIRC ignore the new sound.
Warn if sound doesn't exist: mIRC can also warn you if a user has requested a sound that you don't have so that you can then ask the user for that sound.
Listen for !nick file get requests: If someone sends you a message starting with an exclamation mark prefixing your nickname mIRC will assume that they are requesting a sound file from you and will search your sounds directory for the file. If it finds it, it dcc sends it to the user.
Send !nick file as private message: If this option is turned off and you send the message !nick file to a channel, everyone on the channel will see it if you prefer not to crowd the channel with these messages, you can turn this option on and the user will receive the message privately.
LOCATION OF WAV/MIDI FILES
Whenever a sound is requestes mIRC will look in these directories and all of their subdirectories for it. These dirctories are also searched when you use the /splay command.
