SunAeryn's Farscape adventure
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Well, here it is, my adventure. I was able to go to the First Official FarScape Convention.
It was held on August 5 & 6, 2000 at the Burbank Hilton Convention Center, in Burbank, CA.
Friday, August 4th-
I left with my new Scaper friend, renoir3 (Claire). My best friend was kind enough to take Claire and me to the airport. Even though our flight left at 6:50 a.m. from SeaTac. The flight from Seattle to Burbank was uneventful. Claire and I had a lovely time, chatting and getting to know one another. Then we hit Burbank & the hotel. We were way to hungry & tired to wait for the other Burbank Scaper Rowdies (an egroups started by ChaoticDreamer/Marie) for lunch. We ate lunch , then went to Renoir3's room and took much needed naps!
I shared a room with Air-n-Sun and her daughters. It was nice & a learning experience for me.  I hadn't been around that many female siblings, ever!  I have brothers.  Friday night was the Scifi.com Mixer. It was great to be able to put faces with so many handles! I'm not even going to try to name all the wonderful Scapers I met that night. After the Mixer, there was Early registration for the Con. Man, what a line! Tons of Scapers from all over!
Saturday, August 5th-
We were treated to the History of FarScape  by Rockne O'Bannon, David Kemper & Brian Henson. They were great!  It was nice to know just how passionate these gentlemen are about this show! Thanks guys!
Ben Browder ("John Crichton") was next! He was hot!  He came out, full of energy! He used a line from the movie Galaxy Quest (forgive me. But I don't remember what it was.) He tossed some cards with quotes from FarScape into the audience as he quoted them. The crowd went wild when he did, "Humans are Superior!" Ben also told us all what it really means when an Aussie says "No worries".  Ben's version of "No worries" = Screwed!  Ben answered questions. I asked him who was responsible for all the nicknames "John" calls "Rygel". Ben fessed up, it's all him!
Trivia contest was next. It was nice, but I felt it went on a little to long. Glad for my Scaper friends that won!  I really wished we had gotten to hear from Lily Taylor, more than we did. I bet she has some stories to tell on all the guys in the Production team.
Lani Tupu ("Capt. Crais" & the voice of "Pilot") and Wayne Pygram ("Scorpius"). The came out sportin' shades! Man, were they hot! (Yes, most of the men of FarScape are Hotties!) They talked a little, but went right into the q & a. I had to ask Lani, what it feels like to get his butt kicked by Claudia. He smiled, laughed a little and said "There's more to come." Both men were awesome! I must admit, I was a little worried about how Wayne would look. But, honey, I AM IN L O V E!
The screening of the Third part of the Look at the Princess; The Maltese Crichton. Man what a way to watch FarScape ! On a big ol' screen, with the cast and crew (hopefully) back stage listening to our reactions!  I enjoyed this eps. My favorite part was the end scene, between "John" & "Aeryn". Silence is Golden!
Charity Auction was next. It was interesting to see the items that were auctioned off, but it was way to rich for my blood.
Then we were treated to Bloopers! I will own them, when ever they are put on a tape!
Kent McCord ("Jack Crichton") was up next. Man, Kent looks good!   It was nice that no one asked him about his "Adam12" days.
Claudia Black ("Aeryn Sun") followed Kent. Wow! She came out, looked at the audience and started screaming back at us. When we calmed down enough, she treated us to her talent for speaking Sebacean. I don't know what she said though, my translator microbes weren't working then.  She talked a little about how she came about acting. Then she went for the q & a. Several Scapers got up and asked her questions, myself included.   I must admit that when I finally got my turn to ask Claudia a question, it took me a moment to realize I was actually up there.   I asked her what it felt like to kick Lani's butt. She explained that when they "fight" there is no contact. But when it's a stunt double, well you get the picture. She also said it was a great way to relieve aggression.   I thanked her and headed for my seat. She replied "No worries." I stopped dead in my tracks, turned and said "Wait a minute, I'm not sure I like the way that sounded." Claudia, deepened her voice and said "I know who you are & I know where you live." Man, what a great sense of humor! Thanks Claudia, that is one of my favorite memories of the Con! You rock!
Autographs were next. They took what seemed like Forever! But it was worth it! I had the honor to bring the Message books from the SciFi.com/FarScape BB, for Claudia and Wayne. I was carrying them, my pictures for autographs, & a baggie of Lucky Charms (which happens to be Claudia's favorite cereal, that she apparently can't get in Australia). As I handed my picture to Ben, Claudia noticed the Lucky Charms. She got this big huge grin on her face. She KNEW they were for her! LOL I think, maybe, if I hadn't passed them to her when I did, she just might have shatched them from me.   I then handed her, her message book. She was amazed at the size of it.   I moved on down the line. When I got to Wayne, I slid his message book to him. He asked if I wanted him to sign it. I smiled and told him that it was for him. He, too, was amazed. He had no idea that he would be getting one.   I told him next year that there would be more messages for him! Now that people know what a wonderful person he is!   No wonder he's so good at being bad! I finished getting autographs and headed to my room to change.
Next was the Party and Dance. The music was OK, most of the food was good (glad I listened and didn't eat the Cheese Balls), I still haven't figured out what the frell the dancers in the cages were for. Ben, Claudia, Wayne and Lani came late, they had to eat.  Unfortunately for them, about the minute they walked into the Party, they were mobbed by several fans. It made it hard for them to judge the Costume Contest. But they made it work. Unfortunately (again) time was not on anyone's side and the Cast left as soon as the contest was over. They needed sleep!  Can't say as I blame them.
Sunday, August 6th-
Charity Breakfast with Virginia Hey ("Zhaan") and Gigi Edgely ("Chiana"). Anthony Simcoe ("D'Argo") made a brief appearance. Virginia and Gigi ate, then they came around to each table. It was nice.  Gigi made it to our table first. She was sweet. Chatted with us as we all got pictures with her. Then Virginia made it to our table, finally. When she did, the Creation people said things had to speed up, they had to get Virginia & Gigi out of there in about 15 minutes. Well our table had already decided that we would be the loudest when Virginia came over. She screamed back at us! (Oh, when she first came into the room, waving & smiling, she let us all know how happy she was to have hair!  We had already traded cameras so everyone at our table could get a picture with her. We went fast!
Brian Henson, Rockne, David, Richard "FrooniumRicky" Manning and Lily Taylor spoke to us about the show. I wished we had been able to hear more from Lily Taylor!  I know I already said this, but it's true.
The recreation of the scene from The Flax was next. It was funny, but a little long. The audience members that got picked did a great job!
Then the Australian answer to the Energizer Bunny Rabbit came out, Anthony Simcoe ("D'Argo"). This man really needs to work on breaking out of that quiet little shell he has!  Man, can Anth work a room or what? He taught us how to speak in a Luxan voice, using the Line "I Vow never to be taken prisoner, again."
True/False Trivia Contest. I made it on stage, it pays to be annoying!  I didn't last long though.
We were then treated to what it was like making the eps A Human Reaction (eps # 16) by David Kemper, Rowan Woods (director) and Rockne O'Bannon. It was nice to hear how much work everyone involved with FarScape works! It pays off!
Gigi Edgely ("Chiana") was up next. She was wonderful, energetic, & quiet all at the same time. She read us a beautiful poem she wrote, just for the fans. She told us how she got "Chiana" and how she found out that "Chi" was staying.  She answered questions.
Bloopers again! Same ones, but man, they are funny!
Next was the Stunning Virginia Hey ("Zhaan")! A chair & a Kermit shopping bag were onstage before Virginia came out. In the bag Virginia pulled out a camera! LOL She took pictures of the audience. Then she sat down & just chatted with us. She called one of Air's daughters on stage, she had dressed up as Zhaan. It was sweet. She also called up another little girl to sing a song. She answered questions. I asked her what she thought when she got the script for the eps Home on the Remains. "Zhaan" had little buds growing out of her head. I told her later that HotR is one of my favorite "Zhaan" eps because of the step forward "Aeryn" & "Zhaan's" relationship took.
The Second Costume contest took place.
then came the "Grand Finale" when the entire Cast & Crew (minus Lily Taylor) came on stage one by one. It was great! Claudia was the last one to come out. She hugged everyone. When she finally made it to the side of the stage that Virginia & Gigi were on, they were on their knees, bowing to Claudia! LOL It was great! Then Claudia helped them up and the women of FarScape shared a touching hug!  Claudia (I think) started a group hug. They all then bowed and left.
Autographs with Virginia, Anth, Gigi, Brian, Froon (funny, kind, insane man!), Rockne, Rowan and David happened next. Time had run over so Creation was asking people who weren't leaving Sunday night to let those that were get autographs first. I stepped out of line. I got to hang out with a few Scapers from the BB. I'm glad I did. I got to be in a group shot with all those people that also stepped out of line with Virginia, Anth & Gigi.  Then the excitement was over.
 Flew home on Monday.
That's my adventure! One I will never forget!  Thanks for making it through my long winded remembering. I left out a lot! Be glad! Now, don't go away. I have pictures!
No worries,
Cyndi
