Exhibit One - African Animal Scene
This is an African Animal scene that I folded. It can be
broken into three main sections that describe the different environments
found in this scene. On the left, animals commonly found in the savanna
are displayed. In the middle, some animals found by the lakes and rivers
are shown. Finally, on the right, the tropical rain forest scene can be
seen. I have broken down this main scene into these three parts for you
to see more clearly.
This is the
scene for the savanna. On the far left and to the right of the zebras, I
folded two gazelles which are fleeing from the lions. They were folded from
brown origami paper. The gazelles are created by John Montroll and can be
found in "African Animals in Origami". In the middle, you can see two zebras
which are also created by John Montroll and can also be found in "African
Animals in Origami". One zebra is being devoured by the jaws of the lions
and the other one is fleeing from them. They were folded from origami
paper with the animal print for the zebra. The lions were folded from
different tones of brown and can be found in "Origami Zoo". The lion model
is created by Robert Lang. The mother and baby rhinoceros were folded from
gray origami paper. This model is created by John Montroll and is also
found in "African Animals in Origami". Finally, the toucan perched on the
tree is found in "Origami Animals" by Hector Rojas. It is folded from a piece
of black paper and painted carefully to give the model its characteristic look.
To finish this scene off, the grass and tree were folded - these models are
found in "African Animals in Origami" by John Montroll.
Here is a
scene showing the animals commonly found near water. At the back are a family
of giraffes feasting. They were folded from origami paper with a spotted
pattern for giraffes. These models can be found in "Origami Animals" by
Hector Rojas. The flamingos in the water are in different positions. They
are created by John Montroll and can be found in "African Animals in Origami".
These models were folded with pink paper and touched up with a little
bit of painting to enhance the models. Finally, on the right corner, you
can see a crocodile model folded from green paper. This model is also
created by John Montroll and found in "African Animals in Origami".
The tropical
rain forest scene completes this african animal theme. The family of
elephants were folded from black paper and were given some of my own
embellishments, including eyes and tusks. This model is found in "Favorite
Animals in Origami" by John Montroll. The gorilla and chimpanzees were folded
from brown paper and are found in "African Animals in Origami" by John Montroll.
The gorilla on the left, however, is Akira Yoshizawa's creation and has
a very realistic look made from very simple folds. Finally, the snake on
the middle tree is a model folded from paper with a reptilian print. It is a
model found in "African Animals in Origami" by John Montroll.
