Idina Menzel
Idina Menzel made her Broadway debut in
RENT, for which she recieved a 1996 Tony
Award nomin- ation for Best Fea-
tured Actress in a Musical. Menzel is a singer/songwriter who performs
with her own band on the New York club circuit. She recently signed
a deal with Hollywood Records.
Idina Menzel: When I was fifteen, I got a gig with a wedding band. I lied and said I was eighteen. I was making money and had my own savings account. In my neighborhood, other kids had allowances and took everything for granted, got into drugs and sex early. I never felt I quite belonged. So this job was a good excuse to not have to go to their parties on Fridays and Saturdays. I was proud to be working. I still am.
