Editorial
In this issue, Maurice Batchelor offers a wealth of useful tips for would-be solar astronomers. Most importantly perhaps, he explains how to observe the Sun in safety with simple equipment. For many years, before I acquired a decent telescope, I used a version of the set up described by Maurice based on the use of my pair of cheap (less than twenty quid!) binoculars tied to my camera tripod. Sadly, these met their end when Halley's comet visited us. I rushed round Derby to several of my friends and family to show them the magnificent fuzzy blob. On my last port of call, I did not check the knot and that was that, as they say. The binocs failed to survive the impact with a paving slab, 4 feet below! Oops, I have digressed as usual, also in this issue, you will find astro TV listings, collated by Steve Parkins, a bit about Venus by myself and some rather good observational records drawn by Nick Cowling. Hopefully, we will get more of the same from Nick and perhaps it may inspire others to submit their observations so that the observers section can be continued and expanded. Get out there and observe!
