VOLT ISSUE 0  ic (2000)

Title:
Heroes: Volt
Opponents:  Gremlin, The Project
Others:
Action:  Volt is recovering in a hospital bed.  This throat is bandaged as he remembers the events of the past year.  He was taken away from his home when his electrical powers manifested.  The Project offered to teach him how to control his new abilities.  He spent endless hours learning the names and faces of world and business leaders.  It seemed only an afterthought that he actually practiced with his mutant powers.  His instructor, Gremlin, was tough and cold, like everyone who worked for The Project.  Weeks and months went by.  He first grew to hate Gremlin and The Project.  Eventually they beat him down enough that he just stopped fighting back.  His own anger at Gremlin surprised him.  He wasn't sure where it came from.  Was it hate?  Or love?  It no longer mattered to Volt because Gremlin's reaction was to use her claws against his throat.
Gremlin enters the room and, to Volt's surprise, tries to apologize for her attack.  Volt is too frightened to reply until she touches his hand.  A surge of power erupts from him and engulfs the small hospital building.  All the lights go out and the building lays still in the winter night air.

ISSUE 1  dj (2, 2000)

Title:  Quit a Re-Volting Development
Heroes:  Hiro, Nyx, Sekhmet, Volt
Opponents:  Gremlin, Empire Guards, The Project
Others:
Action:  Volt awakes in his hospital room to find Gremlin unconscious and most of the hospital equipment ruined. (See Volt 0)  Taking this as an opportunity to finally escape, he makes it to the street just before the Project agents arrive.  "I can never go back.  I can never be taken," he repeats to himself.
On another world far away, Hiro watches as his Emperor and the Captain of the Guard are cut down by assassins.  The war had not been going well.  The Emperor authorized a new weapon in their war, a semi-sentient battle suit.  Hiro was honored to be the first to wear the armor and protect his Lord.  With the death of his Emperor, Hiro had no longer any reason to live.  An aggressive attack against the three assassins causes his last victim's teleporting device to malfunction.  In the blink of an eye Hiro finds himself on the mean streets of New York.
The project catches up to Volt just as Hiro "arrives".  Nyx and Sehkmet join the battle as Volt kills two Project agents, two others escape.  Sehkmet purposefully injures a pedestrian before the fight is over to satisfy her lust for blood and before the police arrive, they all retreat to Sehkmet's home.
While Volt recuperates, Hiro tries to find out where he is and eventually talks Nyx to going with him to a nearby Project training base.  Armed guards force them to retreat and rethink their strategy.

Television report from KNYC
Last night, while the city slept, the cat beast known as Sekhmet struck again.  This time the creature killed two SWAT force agents who were trying to subdue the creature after reports it was attacking people in the 144th block.  After the slayings the creature carved it's name on a nearby building over the bodies.  Witnesses say several heroes arrived but the creature managed to escape.  One of the heroes was badly injured in the fight.  Mayor Gulliani has called for all City forces to band together to help stop this roaming menace before it can kill again.

Comic aside #1 - Project Headquarters
Mr. Big:     Your charge has escaped and killed two of our people.  Is there any reason not to terminate this project?
Gremlin:     The trainee shows enormous power potential.  I feel we should try to bring him back for further testing and refinements.  I understand there is the potential for problems but the long-term benefits I feel should outweigh the current negatives.
Mr. Big:     What do you feel are the chances to bring him into our system once he has been returned.  From the field reports it seems his mental state is very poor.
Gremlin:     I feel it may be too early to evaluate that situation.  He is still very young and suffering a loss of confidence.  Further, he is still suffering shock from his recent injuries that would impair is judgment.  There is the danger that he can never be convinced to voluntarily cooperate.
Mr. Big:     I leave you in charge to return him.  Use any non-lethal means at this point.  The loss of any more of our personnel will immediately change this directive and lethal force will be authorized.  I hope you are correct in your evaluation.  He can be trained to be a good agent.  Any failure will reflect poorly on you.

Comic aside #2
Lizard (humanoid with lizard face, skin, etc. dresses in combat fatigues) is roaming the city streets.  He wanders past the recent battle between Volt and the Project and notices a strange object in the snow.  He picks it up and realizes that, although damaged, many others will be interested in his find.  He hides it under his coat and hurries home to make some contacts.

ISSUE 3  dj (4, 2000)

Title:  Orange you glad …
Heroes:  Hiro, Nyx, Sekhmet, Volt
Opponents:  Blackstar, Buzzsaw, Dark-Lurker, Eurostar: Bora, Durak, Mentalla
Action:  The battle rages over a plastic orange that Buzzsaw brings out of the store.  Dark-Lurker takes the orange and leaves while Blackstar and Buzzsaw fight the heroes.  Blackstar is knocked out but not until he and Buzzsaw disable the heroes.  The pair escape.
Sekhmet, seriously hurt in the battle, has Hiro takes her back to her apartment while Nyx and Volt stay to help the police and investigate.  Volt leaves after a few minutes only to be called back a few minutes later by Nyx.  It seems an impromptu street production of Oklahoma! is getting out of control.  It is soon revealed that Mentalla of Eurostar has mind controlled the crowd as a distraction for Bora and Durak to get the orange.  As the unwilling performers twist ankles, break bones and suffer heart attacks at the other end of the street, Bora and Durak kill the police outside the store.  Volt arrives and heroically tries to stand the pair down, not knowing Mentalla is there also, and is knocked out by Bora with one wind blast.  Nyx tangles with Durak until Durak discovers the orange was already stolen by Dark-Lurker.
A week later Sekhmet gets information that something valuable will be traded at a bar called the Iron Chain.  The group makes plans to attend.

Eurostar kills Police - New Hero attempted rescue
Eurostar continued their rampage against civilization again when three of their members and the cat creature Sekhmet attacked a crowd of people and killed four police officers.  Only one hero came to the City's rescue as the group took what they wanted and then left the City.  Twelve others were injured when Mentalla forced the crowd into a singing and dancing performance as a distraction.
The one bright hope of the day is one hero who calls himself Volt tried to stand the three criminals down.  Hopelessly outmatched, they barely paused before dismissing him.  But his heroism is noted by this paper and many observers say he tried his best to distract Eurostar and save lives.
Earlier an antique store was robbed by Dark-Lurker and his gang.  It is unclear if the robbery was used by Eurostar to bring the police to one area or if the two groups were working independently.  Reverend Louis Farakhan activated his Nation of Islam to help protect the City.  The group was formed last year but has been mostly inactive after Reverend Farakhan recovered from his cancer treatments.

Later Sekhmet is visited in a grocery store by Horus.  Sekhmet is at first uncooperative but after a short fight, she and Horus agree to let her problem with Bast settle itself.  Horus says he will let Bast know and the two can arrange to settle their differences.
The group scouts out the "Iron Chain" and find it a normal, seedy bar in a bad part of town.  Nyx goes inside while the other heroes wait out back.  Nyx notices Lizard and Roach and unsuccessfully tries to overhear their conversation.  Just then Eurostar enters the bar, notice Lizard and try to take it an unusual device from him.  Lizard and Roach (a humanoid made up of thousands of cockroaches forming a single mind) blast through the rear wall and escape out the back to discover Hiro, Sekhmet and Volt waiting.  Hiro notices the device is something from his home world and tries to take it from Lizard.  In the chaos between the three groups, Lizard manages to escape and the heroes leave before they are forced to fight Eurostar.

ISSUE 7  dj (7, 2000)

Title:  Home is where the Heart is
Heroes:  Hiro, Nyx, Sekhmet, Volt
Opponents:  Binder, Burnout, Freon, Molten Man, Monster, Oculan, Slick, Thunder
Others:  Dark-Lurker
Action:  Nyx rents an apartment for the heroes and says he will return in a few days.  In the meantime, Hiro visits Dr. Masters to see if he discovered anything.  Dr. Masters shows Hiro a drawing of the teleportation device that Lizard has.  Hiro recognizes it but does not let Dr. Masters know what it does.  Dr. Masters says he will get the device as it is "for sale".
A few days later the four heroes have a "discussion" with Nyx and determine he is working with them after all.  They make arrangements to set up a headquarters and decide to call themselves Keranous, after Zeus' thunderbolts.  Their "discussion" is interrupted by sirens across the Hudson at Stronghold.  They race across and find select prison defenses have been deactivated and holes blown in several of the walls.  The heroes decide Monster cannot escape, but by the time they knock him out, only Oculan is left because he came back out of the water to challenge Nyx to a fight.  After the battle, Sekhmet leaves while the rest of the team introduce themselves to the warden.  A news account of the fight is sent to the papers including Sekhmet's role in the fight.

STRONGHOLD Escapes!
Computers at the super prison Stronghold were systematically attacked allowing one cell group to escape.  It is not certain how the security codes were obtained but new security measures have been implemented to help thwart similar attacks in the future.  Only the timely actions of several local heroes including Volt were able to recapture two of the escapees, Monster and Oculan.
Warden Dennis said that security cameras were "blinded" by stolen security codes.  Without these camera "eyes", the prison's automatic security systems could not help recapture the criminals.  Escapees are: Binder, Burnout, Freon, Slick, Thunderbolt and Molten Man.  Volt and two fellow heroes from the newly formed Keranous, Hiro and Nyx, came to help the prison guards.  Although hopelessly outnumbered, they managed to capture the most dangerous criminal, Monster, and return him to prison.  Sources report that Sekhmet also helped in capturing the criminals but these reports were unconfirmed.
Several members to escape are part of the Master Felons and the City prepares itself for a new wave of crime.
