title:  In the beginning there was Jaguar
heroes:  Marvel
opponents:  Jaguar
others:  reporters for People Magazine
Action:  "Obviously I can't tell you everything.  I mean a girl has to have some secrets lets be serious.   I guess this whole thing started with a photographic job I was asked to do.  At the time, I didn't know what it would lead to, but a girl has to look respectable even if she does live in New York City.   Even before that, I guess it started when I was asked by People magazine for an interview as part of their 'Famous Superheroes on the New York Scene'.  You remember that issue, we used to call it the "People" swimsuit issue because they did not interview any guys.  No one else in Earthguard was around except for me so I agreed to help them out.  While doing the interview, this guy (Panther, Puma..?) attacked me.   I guess he had something to prove after Black Panther and I pushed his nose in a few months back (see Two-In-One Adventure Comics #78) but all he proved was that he couldn't take a punch.  Confinement didn't suit him well.  I talked with him for a long time after the fight and he told me he was still mad at the Russians for leaving him in the jungles after his defeat.  That evening, with no small measure of help from myself, he escaped.  Despite what some say, I did not just let him go.  He hit me over the head real hard.  See."

ISSUE  Marvel Mini-Series 2   ja

Title:  "Who is this guy anyway?"
heroes:  Marvel
opponents:  Russian super types __________________
others:  Hotel Security Guard
action:  "A week later I came home from work, my real job, not Earthguard(r), and found a man in my room.  It's not like I'm a prude or anything but when he claimed to know me as Marvel.  I was amazed, really.  I had been so careful not to let the secret out but there  was this joker sitting in one of my chairs. It was like finding your brother poking in your underwear drawer.  Well naturally I fended surprise and played dumb. I screamed and ran and got the night guard.  I felt really bad about him being shot and killed but I couldn't change fast enough to save him. I climbed to the top of the building and found two more commie dogs there.  I evened the odds by accidentally knocking one over the edge of the building, it was only a six story fall, and went about teaching the second a lesson he would not soon forget. Imagine hitting me with a throwing dagger.  I made a hasty retreat when more Russians arrived with automatic weapons.

ISSUE  Marvel Mini-Series 3   ja

title:  The Florida Shoot
heroes:  Marvel
opponents:  Russian Agents, Imperial Defender
Others:  Ray Morrison (shoot director), Alex (Marvel's secret ID agent)
Action:  "Now, the story really becomes bizarre and confusing.   I finally get the job in Florida for Cosmopolitan's casual wear feature only to find it was fronted by the KGB to isolate me from Earthguard(r).  It's like they weren't interested in taking pictures at all.  The Russians were really mad and I realized it was a trap when they guys started shooting at me, not with the cameras, but with guns.  And then this crazed madman named  Imperial Defender, with a curved back scratcher in one hand and cheap metal hammer in the other, runs up and says he is going to kill me. It will be a real long day in you-know-where before some commie freak can beat me.  That is in a fair fight because one of those slimy guys clobbered me from behind.

ISSUE  Marvel Mini-Series 4   ja

Title:  "And I thought he was a friend"
heroes:  Marvel
opponents:  Russian infantry, African tribesmen, Jaguar, ________________
Others:
Action:  "I woke up several days later in, I found out later, the jungles or mountains of Venezuela. Loudspeakers informed me I had been transported to the home of Jaguar and the emissaries of the KGB were waiting to be entertained by my inevitable death.  I tried to talk with Jaguar, thinking he was in trouble with the Russians the same as me.  I couldn't believe how rude he was.  All he could talk about was "getting even".  Like a guy that low on oil even has a chance.  I was real sorry to disappoint KGB dignitaries for the African tribesmen did not succeed, neither did  the squad of Russian infantry and even Jaguar failed. I understand the Russian Colonel who hoped to use my murder to avenge the 'accidental' death of his brother was shot by his own troops in their anxiety to kill me.
"And that is how I spent my vacation.  I hope you boys had more fun than me."

Meanwhile, Corona, Captain Marvel Junior and Marvel see Cyclotron involved in a street fight. Normally, Cyclotron would be more than adequately prepared to disable a group of ordinary thugs.  But this assailant has a sword and is about to kill Cyclotron before the three heroes come to the rescue. With the help of all three, the man in black armor is quickly dispatched.  The armor is opened and no one is inside.  Corona gives Marvel the sword for "safe keeping".

At Earthguard(r) the two heroes are ambushed by two other Nazgul who mumble something about a jewel. With the help of Star-Scanner, Cyclotron, and Marvel, the Nazgul are banished from this plane.

Unable to contact any Earthguard(r) members, DAD, the Earthguard(r) computer, calls Siren and request help for the heroes who were injured. OMAC, One Man Army Corps, arrives and places both heroes into the Medivac Recovery Units.
Corona and Cyclotron arrive, and after Star-Scanner and Marvel regain consciousness, OMAC says he received a call about some trouble outside Cairo.  In Egypt, Earthguard(r) finds about 6,000 people in the desert. They say that they are waiting for the gods to appear.   Before Earthguard(r) packs and leaves, a gigantic alien space craft lands at the edge of the crowd.  The ship looks like the Sphinx of the desert.  Styx agents interpose themselves between the surging crown and the craft.  That night, as Earthguard(r) is attempting to enter the craft, the front hatchway opens and lasers kill the Styx agents who had set themselves around the craft.  Earthguard(r) rushes inside where they are confronted by the Sphinx.

Heroes:  OMAC, Blackmoor

Avoiding the traps inside the Pyramid, Earthguard(r) makes its way to the chamber room where they discover the Egyptian Gods Horus, Seeker and Shu protecting this crypt.
The battle is taken outside.  It reigns furious but in the end Earthguard(r) triumphs.  They pick up the book and give it to the Sphinx to find this is the evil Sphinx.   Now with the power of the Book of the Dead, he easily defeats Earthguard(r).  As a cruel joke he transports Earthguard(r) back to its own time.  "You must wait your turn at death."

Before the codes can be put into use, the Battle Squad decided to make their move.  They come out the front of the Wallace building and, with the help of Avar-7, attack Atomic Knight and Darkwar.  Meanwhile, Ubermanche and Den-Rann attack the other Earthguard(r) members who are just now returning from Egypt.
The battle is close as Darkwar and Atomic Knight strain their resources before Corona, Solstice and OMAC can join them and defeat the Battle Squad.  Ubermanche is about to kill Star-Scanner, Cyclotron and Phase when Allied Forces arrives.  Their battle rages and eventually is lost over the horizon.

Marvel is quickly subdued and the rest of Earthguard(r) is getting beaten when Darkwar and Star-Scanner punch a hole in the hull of the space ship throwing Darkstar out into deep-space.  To save the lives of the team members on the ship, Marvel agrees to be taken to Moscow without any more fighting.  Star-Scanner, Darkwar, Cyclotron, Ran-Darr and Python are taken back to New York City.

Action:  The Russian Assembly has a marvelous time with Marvel as they publicly humiliate her. Their first aim is to kill her since they consider her too dangerous to leave alive.   Her only alternative is to submit to brainwashing which, thanks to Soviet technology, will leave her body a mindless shell to be used by the military.  She, unsurprising, refuses and they sentence her to death for the many crimes against Russia committed by her. Mercenary steps in and offers another solution. He tells the Politburo that there may be a chance she will work for the Soviet state willingly.  He asks for a few hours at least to try to convince her that it is not a fate worse than death to work for the Russians.  Grudgingly they agree.
But, what Mercenary has in mind is a little sport for himself and his team. He strikes a deal with Marvel. He will release her along the Lebanese border in exchange for her guarantee she calls Earthguard(r) and waits for the Red Guardians. He thinks the Red Guardians can easily beat Earthguard(r) and, since both teams have been itching for a fight this will give them both the opportunity.  Marvel agrees.
