Earthguard 2

This was a short-lived game where the players were unable to sustain interest in playing a campaign only once a month.  The idea was a series of battles against minions of Magneto with the final encounter against the Master of Magnetism.  The scripted plot-line was destroyed while creating this web page.

Title:  An Unlikely Beginning
Heroes:  Marvel (Jasmine), Star Scanner
Opponents:
Others:  Rebecca
Action:  Ley-Teg is enjoying lunch at a sidewalk cafe when a little girl hands him a note.  Ley-Teg asks the girl several questions.  After he has finished reading the note, she disappears into the crowd.  The handwritten note asks him to come for a meeting at the Staten Island Ferry landing at 11:30.  Intrigued, he shows up to find Marvel waiting for him, unchanged in appearance since the last time he saw her.  She proposes to form a new hero team and she asks Star Scanner to front and train the team.  Marvel asks to stay on the outside. She admits the girl that delivered the note, Rebecca, is her daughter and Wartiger is the father.  Marvel also agrees to help with the group whenever she is needed as long as she is in disguise since she is reluctant to endanger a new group with those who want her captured or killed.  She leaves saying she will be in touch when it is time to evaluate the new recruits.
Star Scanner, wanting to add experience to the team, asks Sumo of Japan's Asawa Team to join with him.  Sumo is interested but declines because it would require him quitting A-Team.
On Star Scanner's return to the United States, he finds a letter from Marvel.  In a rambling style, Marvel confesses her past including the killing of several Russians, the near killing Wartiger and her hatred of knowing she is a clone.  She asks Star Scanner to keep her secrets and forgive her.

Title:  The Common Web
Heroes:  Athena, Highlander, Spiderman, StarScanner, Yang
Opponents:  Black Dragon Gang Members, Medusa, Shamrock
Others:  Jasmine, Mandarin, Trask Workers, J. Jonah Jameson, Mary Jane, Master Qui, Suzi Mizomura
Action: Scene -- Man is shown sitting in a car.  He looks like a typical reporter, glasses, hat and cigarette.  He is smoking and waiting for someone or something.  Suddenly, the door to the car is sliced off.  Fear enters his eyes as a voice from off panel says, "It's a shame you are going to miss your deadline.  Here's another deadline you will make."  An energy blast from a pistol hits him in the chest and kills him.  The car is parked outside Professor's Xavier's school.
Jasmine tells StarScanner she has several candidates to review and they start the day following Trask Corporation vans around the streets of New York.  Meanwhile, Peter Parker, just promoted to Junior Editor, has been working long hours and needs to unwind.  Mary Jane suggests putting on the Spiderman outfit and go for a swing.  Athena, in secret ID, comes upon a Trask van taking robotics out of the sewer.  The van drives away and she changes to hero ID to follow.  Medusa, a lab assistant who was caught in the same explosion that transformed Athena, sees Athena and attacks her.  Medusa nearly kills Athena before StarScanner and Spiderman chase her away.  When Jasmine joins the group, Spiderman oddly feels like the uninvited guest and leaves.  StarScanner invites Athena to join a new group and she accepts.
     J. Jonah Jameson enters Peter Parker's office and tells him to take a vacation to Ireland to cover the conference in the Irish Parliament regarding a new manufacturing plant.  The talks are wretchedly boring as the plans are approved and the English businessman and his guard, Highlander, leave the building.  Peter follows the pair for a few blocks but loses them in the crowd when he hears an explosion.  Jasmine and StarScanner, interested in Highlander, are in Ireland and hear the explosion.  The explosion is a hand grenade tossed by Shamrock to Highlander.  Highlander covers the explosion, saves several lives and survives the attack.  The battle between the two is greeted by loud cheers for Shamrock who lands a mighty punch on Highlander's chin, sending him onto the roof of a nearby building.  Spiderman arrives along with StarScanner to check on Highlander.  Shamrock is given a hero's welcome in the local pub.  The irritated glare of Jasmine and StarScanner gives Spiderman the hint that he has business elsewhere.  The pair invites Highlander to join the new group and he accepts.
New York police visit Peter Parker and ask about the Spiderman encounter in Ireland.  They are much more satisfied with Peter's answers than his boss.  J. Jonah wonders why he could not get Highlander and Shamrock to help him capture Spiderman.  Needing a real vacation, he uses his frequent flyer miles to take MJ and him to San Francisco.  Catching sight of the Mandarin attack several gang members, Spiderman changes into his costume, follows the Mandarin but loses him as he sees an ambush forming outside a karate studio.  The Jonny Sung trains in the studio.  Jonny notices the ambush planned for him, fights the thugs and chases them away with the help of Spiderman and StarScanner.  Jasmine and StarScanner are in San Francisco because they heard the Mandarin was there.  Bowing to the inevitable, they invite Spiderman to join the team.  They also ask Jonny Sung to help them find Yang, the last hero they are looking for to complete the team.  Being the same person, Jonny changes into hero ID and Yang meets the pair and agrees to join the team.
They decide to call themselves Earthguard

The team backers would like the new team to make a name for themselves as quickly as possible.  Jasmine, as team spokeman and liason to the team backers, suggests the best way to do that is to capture villains.  She says that she has located Blackstar and Dark-Lurker.  Dark-Lurker is in a north-side tenement building.  Bursting into the apartment, Yang and Highlander find the four villains watching television.  The close action battle suits Yang and Highlander well.  Oculan puts up a furious fight, Binder is knocked out, Burnout tries to run but is caught and Dark-Lurker turns invisible and escapes.
