| I'm getting interested in older VAXstations by receiving a VAXstation 2000. But it has one serious problem, a crashed harddisk and no backup of the previously installed Ultrix. On my search for spareparts, I get a replacement for my harddisk, but not a payable Ultrix. So I look foreward to alternatives. |

If you are not familiar with the selfdiagnostics of a VAXstation 2000, take this "Selftest Documentation" from Digital. For some more explanations out of the the decus group, take this "small FAQ". The DECUServe Journal from December 1994 gives good hints for adding alternative parts: "DECUServe Journal 12/94" For a general documentation of most (Micro)VAX machines, the difference in equipment and performence, take a look in the "MicroVAX/VAXstation Systems Text FAQ". |

"The NetBSD Project" - NetBSD is ported to many platforms, but the developers of the vax-port support most old machines only without graphics, but I think this oonly a question of time. "The Linux VAX Project" - This developers try to port Linux to machines like the VAXstation 3100 and MicroVAX II, which were supported in the current NetBSD release too. |
