This is my first fic, I've been humouring the idea of writing one for some time. I finally thought ahh what the hell what have I got to lose. Comments and suggestions are appreciated, send 'em to adamcannon@ic24.net.
Wrath of a god
by A. Cannon (no pun intended ;)
Prologue
The sun made its slow climb above the horizon. As dawn slowly arrived the dark shadow that was Shrine Island was slowly covered in the oranges and reds of the early morning sun. As the sun continued to rise the shadows receded completely to reveal the moss covered walls of the ancient structure.
Shrine Island had remained somewhat of mystery for countless generations, its purpose lost in time. Its secrets had only recently been revealed as the lost Island of the Silvites rose out the grave that had claimed it just two years previous. A simple enough purpose, it was merely a doorway into the ancient Island of Soltis. A doorway to the powers of the Silver Gigas, the powers that brought about the rains of destruction that wiped completely, the old world from the planet. Again the rains of destruction had been brought to bear, wiping out the Islands under the yellow moon. This time the people had been ready and fought against the powers of the Silver Gigas. Against the person that sought to wipe mankind from the planet, the one who sought revenge for the death of the one whom he thought could save the world. The people had won the day, and the Silver Gigas was destroyed. Its power useless the Island had sunk down once more. Back into the Grave that had claimed it once again. Only Shrine Island now remained from the Silvite Continent.
A monument had been built on the top of the Island. A towering wall of granite carved to the memory of the people that died that day. The day when people came together as one to fight for a common cause, for the right to survive.
Below the Island lost in a layer of cloud, the great vortex still swirled sucking in anything that would venture to close. An inhospitable place to the people of the Arcadia, but to some creatures however the Vortex was their home. Fish existed in abundance at the lower altitudes surviving on the small particles of pollen that were swept in by the winds towards the void. One of the fishes however swan to close to the void. Although the fish had evolved to be able to swim in the strong wind currents the void was to powerful even for it. It was but another victim that the void claimed. The fish was swallowed up by the void to fall into the darkness inside.
The winds were strangely calm however inside the eye of the void. The small fishes eyes attempted to adjust to the darkness. It could see light further down. Thinking somehow that this was the way back to the surface the fish swam down deeper into the void. To late it realised that the light was not the light of the sun that it sought. Out of the gloom a large body appeared. It was large serpent creature, strangely luminescent so that it glowed an eerie green. The small fish was swallowed before it realised its mistake as the large body propelled it self forward at speeds that seemed impossible for its bulk.
The large serpent, now satisfied by its meal sank back down into the darkness, lit up by its luminous body. As it sank further into deep sky lightning flared, lighting up the darkness for brief moments. A silhouette could be seen in the distance as the lightning struck, a large pillar could be discerned in the gloom. It was this pillar that the serpent headed towards. It swam low over the mud of the surface until finally out of the mud an object jutted. The serpent swam over the object as rose slowly, the ground glowing with the green light the serpent omitted. Abruptly it stopped its senses warning it of danger.
A small dull light could be seen several meters away from the serpent. Cautiously it approached the light. As it got closer it could see that the light was emanating off of a small sphere. The light was pulsing growing brighter then fading as if it was breathing. Then the whole area was lit up as the sphere was struck by an arc of lightning. A great boom rang out across the area as the serpent fled. The boom of the lightning was replaced was by the sound of mad laughter. Quite at first but growing steadily louder. Then as quickly as it had come the laughter faded. A voice called out into black void "Soon," it said "soon I shall have my revenge." Again the insane laughter started a new, louder than before, and the dull sphere flared up into a bright white, lighting the area around it.
The sphere rose up into the air, as it did it began to change shape. The sphere grew larger as the light it emitted got steadily brighter. The once perfectly round sphere, now distorted, moved swiftly toward the opening in the void, to the world above deep sky. There, it knew, was the people who would pay.
Over at Pirate Isle, on Lookout Island, Sheaf was doing his morning exercises. As he turned around and stretched his limbs he thought he saw something out of the corner of his eye, some kind of light. He turned around coming suddenly alert looking in the direction of Shrine Island that he thought the light came from. He looked but could see nothing. Must of been my imagination, he though as continued his morning activity.
