It all started in Montrel, Quebec (Canada for ou geography dropouts -=) ).
Ivan Doroschuk nd Jeremie Arrobas started a baby that we all nurture and love, Men Without Hats. One
year later, in 1980, the "Folk of the Eighties" sprang to life. After getting a few minor gigs at bars and colleges
the band moved on to make the 10" vinyl. It was later re-released here in America as a 12"er. Next came the
one and only "Rhythm of Youth" in 1982. I would say that ROY is what got MWH's foot in the door with the hit "Safety
Dance". Two years later, in 1984, the band released another album, Folk of the Eighties Part 3. Where did number
2 go? Well, as I understand it, Number two is just ROY with a different title. 1985 rolled around, and so did another EP,
"Freeways". Another album came out about every two years after that. In '87 it was "Pop Goes the World" and in '89 it
was "...In the 21st Century". And there went the eighties, a very busy year for Ivan and the gang. The 90's came about
nd so did a bit of a slow down. In 1991 they released new album with a new sound, "Sideways". Then there was silence.
In 1996 a few collection CD's were released, but nothing new. Men Without Hats just disappeared. Will the band get
together for another go at an album? I think so. Ivan went solo in 1997 with the release of the lbum "The Spell" Will
Men Without Hats last into the 21st century? We can only hope so.
As time went on, the band switched band members. Ivan's brother, Collin, waslmost always there in the
background somewhere; so was their other brother, Stefan. Allan McCarthy (passed on in August 1995) was part of FOE3 and ROY. I swear, that guy
looks like Luke Perry....hmm... Jeremie Arrobas onl made it on FOE and Freeways. He eventually went on to his own career.
Of course, there weremny many more throughout the years.
