PEARS: A USEFUL SOURCE OF SC EMPLOYMENT AND ECONOMIC DATA
Last month the South Carolina Employment Security Commission unveiled
PEARS ( http://www.sces.org/pears/ ), an impressive new Web resource
where you can find up-to-date state population, income, labor force,
employment, and related economic data.
The first step in using PEARS is to select the geographic area you want
to learn more about: a South Carolina county ... one of our six
Metropolitan Statistical Areas or 12 Workforce Investment Areas ... or
the state as a whole.
PEARS is an acronym for Palmetto Economic Analysis and Research System.
It was developed by the Employment Security Commission's Labor Market
Information Department ( http://www.sces.org/lmi/ ). If you have a
question about PEARS or need assistance, please call 803-737-2660
(Columbia) or 1-800-205-9290.

South Carolina Lottery Referendum Issues
You can learn more about them by visiting these Web sites:
Keep in mind that our CHILDREN'S education, among other things are being sacrificed, due to these people, who will die fighting this issue. I, being from Florida, originally, know what kind of HELP a lottery can be toward our children's education, among other things. Just check out the SAT scores & other educational information on this state, like the fact that we are 48TH in the U.S. in education!

***SINCE THE ELECTION***
The majority of the State of SC residents are all FOR a Lottery being enacted here. The voters went to the polls & showed their support of this much needed revenue, by voting YES for the issue, in mass numbers!
We will be looking for a Lottery to become part of our lives soon, (we hope)!
We had the Video Poker Machines, on every corner (here in Myrtle Beach, SC), until they were outlawed, due to the fact that the owners of the machines fighting the passing of a law to run a phone line to each machine: That would allow the state to monitor what was going on in the machines. The Machine Owners lost, they did not have the phone lines in place by the deadline, their appeals were fruitless.
The lottery will be GREAT for our state! Thanks to all who actually took their selves to the polls & stood up for yourselves & our children's future.
As A citizen of SC I feel that this issue, the state keeps bringing up; about the lottery making people poorer than they are IS RUBBISH! This is a lame excuse & to try to keep SC in the "Dark Ages" is absurd! There are a great number of people who live in this state that ARE NOT FROM HERE. They know that there IS life outside the state lines of the Carolinas, as well as what kind of opportunities there are, if only the people who are running the state would allow SC to catch up with the rest of the U.S.
The Lottery is only the beginning.
