MSC PHASES

Phase I - (off the ground)
In the first phase, Malaysians will learn from their international partners operating in the MSC, a 15 km by 50 km area covering the Kuala Lumpur City Centre, Putrajaya and the new KL International Airport in Sepang.

The commencement of:


Phase II (2000 - 2010)
The second phase will see the linking up of the MSC with "other islands of excellence" within the country.

Detail on Some Companies

NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone) –{MSC Status}

The new company to be set up in Malaysia, is tentatively known as NTT Malaysia and is estimated to be set up with 2-3 months. It is reported that land for this set-up will be bought from Cyberview Holdings of Malaysia.

Two of its likely businesses are to be:

  1. R&D center within MSC; the second of its research centres outside of Japan. It will set up the research and development division for multimedia technology at the Malaysian unit. This is part of an effort to establish a global R&D system linking its labs in Japan and the U.S.
  2. and International communication services in collaboration with Malaysian carriers.

Currently, NTT has 15% (USD 2.9 million) stake in Cyberview Holdings to develop Cyberjaya.

NTT is also involved in the working groups of 4 of the Flagship Applications:

  1. Electronic government
  2. Smart Schools
  3. Telemedicine
  4. National Multipurpose card

NTT has signed a joint venture agreement with Telekom Malaysia in May 1997; with NTT holding a 30% share. The joint venture company has a paid-up capitla of RM11 million and will be focussed on IBS (Intelligent Building Systems) in Malaysia.

NTT has also expressed interest in being involved with Telekom's multimedia university, if invited.

PNB has expressed desire to be major contributor to the MSC by utilising its experience in establishing databases, applications, and management systems to government and quasi-government bodies. Its wholly owned information technology company, PNB Information Technologies Sdn. Bhd., in a joint venture with 2 other companies, is involved with the development of the electronic government project.
