Drop it, Buster!
Spice up you report with a little "know how"Create an initial cap at the beginning of your opening paragraph - or any paragraph that you want to distinguish - by using
Drop Caps. You have the option of dropping the character in line with the paragraph or in the margin. You can also choose how deep you want to drop it.
- Click anywhere in the paragraph.
- Format: Drop Cap
- In the Position area, select either Dropped or In Margin
In the Options area, you can further decide if you want to make other modifications to the Drop Cap:
Font Type, Lines to Drop and Distance from Text.
Footnote Fancy
Footnotes just don't seem to know how to behave in public. Know anyone like that?
You would expect them to always appear on the same page they were referenced on. Sadly, no.
Occassionally, you have to retrain them and force good behaviour.Try this:
On the page where the misbehaving footnote should appear, insert a Continuous Section Break at the bottom of the page.Insert: Break: Section Break: Continuous

Borderline Blues
Eeek, there's strange black line at the bottom of my document and I can't get rid of it!Can you help?
Ctrl A to select entire document ![]()
Format: Borders and Shading ![]()
Borders tab: Settings area: select None
You can even select None using the Borders shortcut button on the Formatting toolbar.
But, how did I get this line in the first place?
Autoformat As You Type is on. Typing three dashes and the Enter key produces a line. There are several types of lines you can produce this way. To find out what they are and what elseAutoformat As You Type can do, ask your Office Assistant.
