What is Scale Modelers Ring?

Scale Modelers Ring consists of all the Scale Modeling web sites on the web linked together to form a virtual tour.
Scale Modelers Ring will provide a guided tour of all the Scale Modeling web sites which are linked together on the
Scale Modelers Ring. A visitor using the Ring will visit the sites one by one in an order or skip sites.
The links form a chain and eventually the visitor will return to the first link again because the chain forms a loop.
Each Scale Modelers Ring site will also have a link back to the Scale Modelers Ring home page.

Why Scale Modelers Ring?

To make it easy for you to visit the sites of your interest with out spending lot's of time searching them.

How does Scale Modelers Ring work?

Each member of Scale Modelers Ring will display the Scale Modelers Ring button and the links which will allow the user to go to one or more of the following: next site, skip next site, previous site, sites list. The Scale Modelers Ring button and links which every member will have to display on their site will look like this:

How do I join Scale Modelers Ring?

Scale Modelers Ring is open to all web pages containing Scale Modeling.
To join the Scale Modelers Ring, use the form above. The HTML code to be included in your page will be e-mailed to you and you can just cut and paste it on your page. In most cases, the Scale Modelers Ring button has to be displayed on your intro page (index.html normally). You may include it as well on your other pages. The guideline here is that you should put the button somewhere that can be easily seen without having a Scale Modelers Ring user searching all over your site for it. Lastly, if your site features frames, please make sure that the Scale Modelers Ring links break out of your frame or opens a new window. When you join the ring, you first add your site to a queue. You are then given a site ID number for your site, which you can use to add whatever html code is necessary for the ring. Once your site is all ready to go with the proper links and the Scale Modelers Ring button, you ask someone already in the ring, or the Scale Modelers Ring manager - (Amos Dor) to add you to the ring.

Sites in the queue do not affect ring operation in any real way. The queue only serves as a temporary storage area for site information while the ring applicant/newcomer makes changes to their homepage. This allows new people to join the ring without ever having any down time where the ring isn't totally operational. Any site that has been on the queue for more than 30 days is automatically removed from the queue and the site owner is notified by e-mail. This is necessary to reduce the number of sites in the queue and make the site id number available to others.

I have filled the form, what next?

After you have filled out the form, your site will be placed into the queue. At the same time you will receive an e-mail from the ringmaster which contains an HTML fragment which you will have to cut and paste into your page. Make sure you use this HTML fragment and not cut and paste from other site members WebPages. This is because each site has it's own site id number.

After pasting the HTML fragment, e-mail an existing member or the ringmaster (Amos Dor) together with your site id number and request them to add you to Scale Modelers Ring.

Why haven't I receive HTML code e-mail?

The most probable reason for this is that you have made an error while typing your e-mail address in the form. The e-mail with the HTML code is generated automatically by the WebRing script. Please fill up the form again.

How long does it take to add me to the ring?

This depends on who you request to add you to the ring and also assuming that your webpage has all the necessary HTML code. If you request the ringmaster to add you in, it will usually take about 1 to 7 days depending on how busy I am.

How do I add new members to the ring?

If someone requests you to add their site to the Scale Modelers Ring, first note their site id number (if it is not provided, ask them for it -  it's easier this way), then go to the Scale Modelers Ring queue page at:
http://www.webring.org/cgi-bin/webring?ring=modelers;queue
Search for the requester's site id number. Before you click on the "add" link, please check the following:

1) Make sure the site contains the Scale Modelers Ring logo and the HTML code is present.
2) Make sure that the site id number correct. Check this against the site id number given in the queue list.
3) Make sure that the site contents are suitable and in accordance to the Scale Modelers Ring requirements.

If everything is in order, click on "add" and enter your site id number and password. The site will be added right after your site.

I can't cut and paste the code from my e-mail program. What should I do?

Some of you may have set your e-mail program to display your mail in HTML format instead of the usual text format. If so, you will probably see the HTML code as a logo with the links instead of the code itself. If you can, set the display mode back to text format or just cut and paste the HTML code from an existing site member's site but change all the site id parameters to your own site id number. Look for the parts with "id=###" and replace them with your site id number. Your site id number is included together with the e-mail.

Sometimes, sites that has the necessary HTML code and meet all the Scale modelers Ring requirements are removed from the queue because the site owner has either failed to contact someone to add the site to the ring or the person who was asked to add the site has failed to do so.

However if you are still interested in joining Scale modelers Ring, just fill up the "Join Scale modelers Ring" form again and this time ask the ringmaster to add you to Scale modelers Ring.
