The Original Position
This is the true and original way to fire a spudgun. Though no one is usually taught to do it this way, most people find out for themselves. Call it common sense. If fired at a perfect 45º angle, one could reach maximum distance (unless you put acetylene in the chamber YEEHAW!)
Single-Person Bazooka Style
I know only a few people who use this position. Most people, I suspect, do not wish for the spudgun to be right next to their ear even though you'd get just as badly hurt as if it was by their side. To hold the spudgun:
take the barrel about a foot down from the reducer with your hand
rest it on your shoulder
put the reducer against the back of your jaw near your ear
put the top of the barrel against your temple
look down the barrel to sight in the target
reach your free hand back to steady the chamber and push the button
The main and foremost advantage of using this position is accuracy. One time, while vacationing in the Uintas, I brought my spudgun up with me to shoot with some of my friends. One of my friends and I had a shooting contest at a broken sign at about 50 feet. I had always thought about using this position and finally had a reason to use it. I hit the sign on my second shot, and you can tell how much easier it is to aim with this position. I made a little animation to remind you of the benefits of this position when a laser sight is not available:
Double-Person Bazooka Style
This is the best position for firing with accuracy. This position betters the single-person with better steadiness and accuracy because of it. A diagram is draw below (sorry about the picture, I didn't feel like making it animated)
The aimer uses both hands to steady the barrel and aims by looking down the barrel (much like a shotgun or bow). The detonator steadies the chamber by holding it on his shoulder with his hand. With the free hand, he pushes the button to shoot the gun.
The Need to Feel Power!
Don't even ask me about this one. I meant for this position to be more funny than to actually be used but 'whatever floats your boat.' If you decide to use this, make sure the gun isn't resting against anything 'important' if you know what i mean :-O.
