"Little things" a track that submerges the listener into a pool of acoustic beats, we are given heavy drum and base rhythms with hints of guitar. India Arie delivers that contained deep soulful vocal while refreshing higher pitch backing vocals aid the tracks uplifting vibe.
On "Slow down" India Arie sings about taking things slow in life and not rushing to obtain a selfless goal. Here, as in many of her tracks, lyrics and vocals are the focal point while instumental is natural in its sound. "Beautiful Surprise" uses simplistic musical elements but sounds so rich and complex, where only guitar - strummed with emotion - drum and piano make up the instrumental. India Arie delivers varying vocal from deep to airy..
India Arie's music is full of hidden mesages none more so on the track "Get it together." A track that explains the pitfalls of not expressing your feelings and the negative opinions of others, India Arie takes the listener on a narrative journey. On "The one" we are given those acoustic sounding instruments but this track is given a mild Jazz flavour. With a distinctive old school Motown sound where trumpets and piano are strummed in that smooth laid back style.
India Arie's second album "Voyage to India" sees a sequel to her debut, we get just about the same delivery, that natural organic sound and those deep soothing rich vocals. India has though become more preachy in her lyrics, giving advice on many of her tracks. The album doesn't offer much new musical delights, but we are given a consistent sound and inspirational lyrics that will please many.
