Togetherness is the motto of the brothers Gibb these days. And that togetherness extends to their parents, in-laws, and friends. Barry, Maurice and Robin are devoted to their wives and children. Barry and Maurice live a “bike's ride away” from one another in Miami, Florida. Robin still lives in England but admits that the enormous taxes he pays just may force him to move to the Gibb compound in Miami soon, too.
“It may not fit everybody's idea of a pop group,” says Barry's wife Linda, “but we really are a tight family. My parents are living with us, Maurice has his people here, and Barry's mom and dad come around every day. They like it like that.”
Barry lives in a yellow Victorian house on Biscayne Bay with wife Linda (a former Miss Scotland) and their two children Stephen (5) and Ashley (1). Maurice, wife Yvonne, and son Adam (2), live in a modest home nearby.
Little brother Andy was living on a houseboat for a while, but recently began renting an ocean-front home in Miami Shores. Mom and Dad Barbara and Hugh live nearby on a houseboat.
When The Bee Gees were forced to spend several months in L.A. while filming the movie Sergeant Pepper, they rented a palatial Beverly Hills mansion and all three lived there harmoniously with their wives and children.
“Living together on the road became a habit when we were first recording in Florida four years ago,” says Barry.
All the Gibbs love the Miami life of sunning, swimming, boating, fishing and the casual atmosphere.
“It's a crossroad here,” says Barry. “We can quickly get to New York, Los Angeles or London. It isn't full of crazies like Los Angeles or cold like New York and it doesn't have English taxes.”
Another reason they love Florida is Criteria Studios. That's the place where they lay down the tracks for all those monster hits of theirs!
