While awaiting arrival of his newest LP to be released (everyone's been waiting with baited breath!), Andy's been floating around from concert stages to talk and variety shows, in studio recording sessions ( he just drifts over to Miami's Criteria Studios). But he's been floating around in another way, too - at home on his “enormous houseboat” in Miami, Florida.
The 80-foot sloop, purchased by Andy, has, in his words, “great vibes and an interesting history!” He says the previous owner, rumored to be a mobster, was murdered in the master bedroom!
hopping aboard, and taking a peek inside that master bedroom, you're wowed by the size of the room - and luxe of it all! The up-to-the-ceiling mirrors and carpets (yes - they're up the wall, too!) and the king-sized round bed with its built-in circular headboard are the very height of luxury. And Andy always keeps the place looking shipshape! Roomy and uncluttered in feeling with sleek lines, everything is super modern and compact describes the place to a tee!
In the main living room, there's a grand piano and picture windows which boast the entire Biscayne Bay view, which is breathtaking at any time, but especially something special to see at dawn or dusk!
It's more than just nice or different for Andy to own a houseboat because he is a great sun & surf enthusiast. He loves all water sports, including fishing, sailing, swimming, surfing and scuba diving. For him, having the ocean literally at his door is not jut a matter of convenience, but it's a way of life! Furthermore, it seems to be that way for the rest of the Gibbs, too. Barry lives just around the corner on a large estate, and Maurice is only two door away from that. Andy's folks, Hugh and Barbara Gibb, also live right nearby in a houseboat stationed in a private cove in Miami Beach.
Only Robin lives in England with his wife and says he won't be moving down to Florida along with the rest of the Gibb clan.
It seems like the Gibbs have always gravitated to the water. They lived in Australia - famous for its beautiful beaches and excellent surf, and later, between 1970 and 1974, Andy lived on the remote island of Ibiza, off the coast of Spain and then, the Isle of Man, England.
Even the name of Andy's first album, Flowing Rivers, suggests his love for the water and the fascination it holds for him.
By the time you read this article, Andy's newest (his second) LP will be due for release. Rumor has it, it may be launched under the title, “Shadow Dancing.”
