Merv: What's new in Gibbville?
Andy: New in Gibbville?
Merv: With all the Gibbs
Andy: Does that include all of us?
Merv: Do you like that?
Andy: Yeah, it's sort of nice
Merv: It says here Gibbville
Andy: I think we'll change Miami to that.
Merv: (laughs) It almost is.
Andy: Yeah.
Merv: Where is everybody?
Andy: Everybody's at home in Miami Beach.
Merv: Are they?
Andy: Yeah.
Merv: But, I thought Barry was out here producing?
Andy: Well, he's doing the backtracks to Barbra Streisand's new album right now. He's producing that.
Merv: AAAHHHH.
Andy: I don't know where they're going to do the vocals. I presume it will probably be in LA.
Merv: Right. Mom, Dad? They all
Andy: Mom's here, somewhere.
Merv: Is she?
Andy: I don't see her here at the moment, but she's around. And, my father's back in Miami.
Merv: It's really a close terrific family.
Andy: It is.
Merv: And you have a good time.
Andy: Yeah, we have a great time.
Merv: Does your dad yearn for the days, though, when he could sit in and play?
Andy: Yeah, I think so. He's a bit of a, you know, frustrated now, but I think he's taking in all his, um, all his frustrations out in our success, which is great.
Merv: Great. That's good.
Andy: Yeah, We enjoy him.
Merv: How's that boat? Are you a
Andy: My boat? Yes.
Merv: Are you into
Andy: Yes, it's doing very well.
Merv: Sailing around the Bahamas down there?
Andy: Whenever I get the chance, yeah, I take it to Bahamas.
Merv: Stinkpot or sail?
Andy: Stinkpot?
Merv: oh, uh, I'm not insulting, no, you look like I'm insulting you.
Andy: Yeah
Merv: See in California they're known, if you have a motor in it, it's a stinkpot.
Andy: It's a stinkpot.
Merv: YOU have a stinkpot?
Andy: I have, I have a boat too.
Merv: (laughs) It's a, oh, it's not a sail.
Andy: No, it's a two-diesel engines, turbo diesels.
Merv: Good. How big?
Andy: She's 58 foot long.
Merv: ooooh, Aaaandy.
Andy: That's my pride and joy.
Merv: It must be so lonely on there.
Andy: (laughs) Wellllll
Merv: Fifty-eight feet long, and you're the captain?
Andy: Yeah, I'm the captain.
Merv: And you do it all yourself?
Andy: Yeah, yeah, I do all my own navigation. Plot the course.
Merv: Oooh, you poor guy.
Andy: Oh, it's tough.
Merv: all by yourself out there in the Bahamas.
Andy: No, I take my friends along.
Merv: Oh do you? The whole gang go?
Andy: Cast off the bowline, cast off the stern. {I'm assuming he's talking about fishing, but I don't know that much about boats, so maybe these are boating terms.}
Merv: It's a wonderful place out of Miami for a
Andy: It is
Merv: for sailing and for boating, and the Bahamas are there and, ah
Andy: That's right, the Bahamas are 40 miles away.
Merv: Right.
Andy: It's great.
Merv: Now, are you down there a lot?
Andy: Yes, I'm going at the end of this week, I'll be off on a two-week sail.
Merv: Ever nervous about those sudden squalls that come up?
Andy: Sure, I've got all the best equipment on board, though, to, ah, predict storms, and a worldwide radio.
Merv: Do you ever get in trouble on them?
Andy: I've never been in trouble, well, I've been in trouble once, but it wasn't really in trouble, it was just a very rough crossing, we went out in about 20 foot head seas on it.
Merv: hmm-mmm.
Andy: And I was kinda nervous at the time, it was the first big trip I'd done on her. But now, I just avoid the bad weather.
Merv: You love all the attention that you get from those ladies out there, don't you?
Andy: What, mermaids or what? (laughs) In the ocean?
Merv: No, no, no, sitting out in the audience.
Andy: Oh, I beg your pardon, yes. Oh yes, of course, I do.
Merv: They still hanging around the house down in Miami?
Andy: Ah, yes, they follow us around, and when we drive from one house to the other, they follow us.
Merv: Does it bother you at all?
Andy: No, I mean, it's when it stops you got to start worrying.
Merv: Yeah, yeah. And you stop and talk to them and say, `hi gang.'
Andy: Sure, we talk to them now and again.
Merv: Come on in for dinner.
Andy: Yeah, There are certain ones now, you know, who are becoming quite well known to us. (laughs) So,
Merv: (laughs) Yeah, I'll bet, they hang around your front door.
Andy: Yeah, well, we talk to them now and again.
Merv: You're on a tour right now?
Andy: Well, I'm on a promotion tour, that's promoting the new album, and, ah, we've already been to Holland, Germany, Paris, ah, we haven't really stopped yet for about a month or two.
Merv: Where are the record sales the biggest, obviously still America, but where outside of America? Is Holland, a great market.
Andy: Yeah, Holland and Germany are very, very big markets. I also believe the Far East, Japan and the East is a great market
Merv: Have you been there?
Andy: and Australia. I haven't no, I want to go there badly.
Merv: Yeah, I'm, I betcha they would die
Andy: It would be lovely.
Merv: Put the, have you got the album on disk? Put it up there again, that's really a nice
Andy: Thanks
Merv: You've gotten excellent reviews. This album is called After Dark, and that's the title song we're going to hear right now? Isn't it?
Andy: Yes.
Merv: Okay, here's Andy Gibb, After Dark.
NOTE: I transcribed this from a television interview Andy gave, so if there are any errors, it may have been due to a part where I could not understand what was being said clearly enough.
