How to make an interface in Paint Shop Pro
Click on the image below to see the finished interface
Note: This interface will be made up of several layers. To make it easier to know what layer you are working on, you can name your layers. Be sure to save as often as possible!
The first step is to decide what kind of interface you want. You might want to sit down with paper and pencil and draw your interface. It makes it easier to see what you are trying to accomplish before you start. Once you figure out your basic shape, open up a new image. The bigger the better. You can always crop the image later to get rid of the extra space.
| For this tutorial we will us a 400 x 400 transparent canvas. Add a new layer. Set your foreground color to whatever you like then select the shapes tool, rounded rectangle, filled, antialias checked. Draw your rectangle to a good size, leaving enough space on the outside edges for a dropshadow later. | ![]() |
| Now let's add some buttons to our interface. Add a new layer. Switch your foreground and background colors and select white as your new foreground color. Using the shapes tool again with the same settings as before, make a rounded rectangle. Copy and paste this rectangle as a new layer 3 more times. You now have 4 buttons on your interface. Make sure they are all in a nice even column. Hide all the other layers and merge visible the button layers. | ![]() |
| Add a new layer. Select the shapes tool again with the same settings as before. Make a rounded rectangle leaving plenty of space between your buttons and the new rectangle. Also leave some space on the other side for more additions to the interface. | ![]() |
| Now let's add some round buttons. Add a new layer. Using the shapes tool, filled, antialias checked, a circle below the larger rectangle. Copy the circle and paste it as a new layer 3 times. Make sure they are all lined up evenly. Once again, hide all other layers and merge visible the circle layers. | ![]() |
| Duplicate the button, circle and smaller rectangle layer. In the layer palette, move all of the duplicte layers to the top of the other layers. Hide the duplicates and merge visible the buttons, and small rectangle layer along with the large rectangle. You should now have the duplicate layers, and the merged layer. | ![]() |
