COMMERCIAL POTENTIAL
THE STORY SO FAR
As stated in the section New Discoveries, the natural
process of humic acid transformation to kerogen,
bitumen, asphalt, shale oil, petroleum, and coal tar,
can now be mimicked in the laboratory. However, the
process can be controlled better, and further, new
chemicals unknown in nature can be prepared easily
and cheaply. Farm, industrial, and household rubbish
could be the raw materials. Already the Chemicals division
of the Australian CSIRO has evaluated the project as
commercially viable.
WHAT IS REQUIRED
To develop the commercial applications of the
discoveries requires an entrepreneurial organization
or company with moderate financial backing to fund the
future of the project. I have done all the basic, but
expensive research. Now a modest laboratory with
access to HPLC, FT-IR and NMR equipment is needed.
Suites of the new chemicals need to be prepared, and
then tested for their properties. The raw materials
are cheap and plentiful, and the chemical reactions
are relatively simple. This would require just
general laboratory materials and equipment. However,
testing could be outsourced to laboratories that
have specialized equipment to test the properties of
the new chemicals. It is envisaged that the work would
lead to patents and/ or trade secrets with high returns
from commercial marketing.
